The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire qualified candidates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic, creative thinking, problem solving environment. This position serves as an Assistant Information Security Officer. This position provides consultive services to information services personnel in resolving technical application problems. In this role you will perform difficult and specialized professional work in computer software implementation of average complexity relative to the interface functions between application programs and data processing hardware. In addition, you will perform required security measures using RACF security to ensure department software, databases, and computerized files are secure and protected from unauthorized entry or modification. Job Responsibilities
25% Under general direction, serves as an Assistant Information Security Officer for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the IL Department of Employment Security (IDES):
- Provides consultive services to information services personnel in resolving technical application problems.
- Identifies and analyzes information technology (IT) problems and develops and implements solutions
- Delegates implementation of solutions based on the complexity of the resolution
20% Serves as a member of a team implementing computer software on large agency systems:
- Performs difficult and specialized professional work in computer software implementation of average complexity relative to the interface functions between application programs and data processing hardware
20% Performs required security measures using RACF security to ensure department software, databases, and computerized files are secure and protected from unauthorized entry or modification.
10% Provides software development consultive services to information services personnel regarding intermediate computer systems.
10% Monitors libraries used for systems and programming development to ensure proper maintenance.
- Conducts feasibility studies for system conversions or enhancements
5% Produces software testing programs and generates JCL instructions:
- Tests databases and computerized files for new software packages
- Reports findings to supervisor.
- Prepares comprehensive documentation of system innovations.
5% Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field:
- Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on IT products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
- Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations.
5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience in system services or a related IT field.
Specialized Skills
- Requires one (1) year of experience using software/systems such as RACF security systems or JCL.
- Requires one (1) year of experience with software implementation and interface functions between application programs and data processing hardware.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- One (1) year of experience using software/systems such as RACF security systems or JCL.
- One (1) year of experience with software implementation and interface functions between application programs and data processing hardware.
- Working knowledge of the methods, procedures, and techniques of conducting feasibility studies for system conversions and enhancements.
- Ability to analyze and diagnose system issues and coordinate efforts to resolve.
- Ability to coordinate the activities of work associates to achieve desired results.
- Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients and others.
- Developed verbal and written communication skills to present information to others with clarity and precision.

- This position is considered light work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(b)). Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
