Job Responsibilities

35% Under administrative direction, serves as the Integration Solution Engineer for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT):

  • Provides highly technical specialist and advisory functions for major and highly complex integrations functions and projects for the Integration Solution.
  • Provides highly advanced technical specialist and advisory functions in planning, implementing and coordinating integrations solution engineering.
  • Performs highly complex research, installations, systems generations, configurations, testing and implementation of the Integration Solution.
  • Conducts and coordinates in-depth enterprise-wide management studies involving extensive technical research and systems analysis.
  • Develops complex written IT analysis and recommendation documents.
  • Develops highly technical written implementation plans.
  • Presents formal recommendations and plans to IT Senior Management.
  • Works closely with stakeholders such as business analysts and system owners to understand integration requirements.
  • Gathers information, analyzes existing systems and processes and identifies integration needs.
  • Implements Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes.

30% Designs and implements the integration solution architecture:

  • Develops code, configures middleware platforms and writes scripts or workflows to enable data exchange between systems.
  • Utilizes MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, IBM Integration Bus and Apache Camel in performance of duties.
  • Tests the integration solution to ensure its functionality, performance and reliability.
  • Documents the integration process.
  • Reviews and analyzes issues and/or problems that arise during the integration process.
  • Identifies errors, debugs code and collaborates with other teams to resolve integration-related issues.
  • Implements knowledge of RESTful and SOAP-based web services, API design principles, Enterprise Service Bus and messaging systems such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ and IBM MQ in performance of duties.
  • Implements data integration techniques, including data mapping, data transformation, data modeling, and converting data from one format to another, reconciling differences between data structures and ensuring data consistency and integrity.
  • Utilizes knowledge of IMS, DB2, MS SQL, Oracle and DB2 for Servers, Microsoft API and APIM, as well as cloud integration platforms, such as Azure Logic Apps, AWS Step Functions, or Google Cloud Pub/Sub in performance of duties.

25% Serves as a project lead providing advice and guidance to lower-level professionals for complex projects:

  • Leads complex and enterprise-wide projects with clients and technicians.
  • Coordinates and conducts application solutions related projects of a complex nature.
  • Interprets project details and scope to lower-level team members.
  • Guides and leads lower-level team members with project implementation, questions, concerns and issues.
  • Reviews team reports and prepares and maintains documentation and detailed reports, submitting to supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • Reviews and monitors project progression, ensuring details and requirements are incorporated into the final product.
  • Keeps supervisor apprised of project timelines, issues and concerns.
  • Utilizes project management tools such as MS PowerPoint, MS Visio, MS Project, MS Teams Azure and/or DevOps in performance of duties.
  • Implements various integration patterns in the projects, such as point-to-point, publish/subscribe or ETL.
  • Presents information to others with clarity and precision.
  • Provides advice and guidance regarding the highly complex application program aspects that require extensive technical research and systems analysis.
  • Compiles and presents technical information to stakeholders, managers and IT staff and provides technical support and training.

5% Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field:

  • Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on IT products, vendors, techniques and procedures.
  • Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations.

5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
  2. Requires five (5) years of professional experience in application support services or a related Information Technology field.

Specialized Skills

  1. Requires five (5) years of professional experience with integration platforms and middleware tools, such as MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, IBM Integration Bus, Apache Camel or similar tools.
  2. Requires five (5) years of professional experience designing, implementing and maintaining APIs for different systems to enable smooth communication and data exchange.
  3. Requires five (5) years of professional experience performing complex data transformation and mapping tasks, including converting data from one format to another, reconciling differences between data structures and ensuring data consistency and integrity.
  4. Requires five (5) years of professional experience with cloud-native integration tools and patterns, and with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  1. Five (5) years of professional experience with integration platforms and middleware tools, such as MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, IBM Integration Bus, Apache Camel or similar tools.
  2. Five (5) years of professional experience designing, implementing and maintaining APIs for different systems to enable smooth communication and data exchange.
  3. Five (5) years of professional experience performing complex data transformation and mapping tasks, including converting data from one format to another, reconciling differences between data structures and ensuring data consistency and integrity.
  4. Five (5) years of professional experience with cloud-native integration tools and patterns, and with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  5. Certification: MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect or IBM Certified Solution Developer.
  6. Three (3) years of professional experience designing and developing APIs, including RESTful and SOAP-based services, and with API management tools.
  7. Three (3) years of professional experience integrating cloud services and platforms, utilizing tools such as AWS Lambda, Azure Logic Apps or Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
  8. Thorough knowledge of data transformation utilizing tools such as XSLT, JSON/XML transformation libraries and ETL processes.
  9. Thorough knowledge of Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and messaging systems such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ or IBM MQ.
  10. Three (3) years of professional experience coordinating and conducting complex IT related projects.
  11. Extensive knowledge of programming languages, database systems and web technologies.
  12. Extensive knowledge of IMS, DB2, MS SQL, Oracle and DB2 for Servers, Microsoft API and APIM.
  13. Ability to analyze and diagnose integration issues and coordinate efforts to resolve.
  14. Ability to coordinate the activities of work associates to achieve desired results.
  15. Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with others.
  16. Developed verbal and written communication skills to present information to others with clarity and precision.
