Description
The primary function of this employee is to plan, direct and manage the operation of Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Justice Information Technology Systems, Administrative software systems, including application support, development, and inventory and maintenance activities. This position supervises professional and technical staff.
Duties
- Supervises, directs, assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing and evaluating work, counseling
- Plans, develops, manages, and implements all Sheriff’s Office information technology projects including the integration of all law enforcement automated systems
- Oversees, implementation, maintenance, operation and development including enhancements of multiple computer technologies including operating systems, application packages, custom developed software, CAD systems, records management systems, SQL database management systems and related software
- Oversees projects to ensure technical and departmental requirements are met; monitors time and dollar expenditures to ensure projects and budget meet established targets
- Resolves project related problems by directing or performing reviews, analyzing the issues, and developing a clear resolution
- Acts as local agency assistant security officer (LASO) for the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI)/ Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) in the absence of Support Services Captain; performs duties as detailed in the CJIS Security Manual; implements and enforces security policy and design; reviews FBI security requirements; maintains Sheriff’s Office security certification; and monitors CJIS infrastructure for illegal activity and audit compliance
- Assists in the specification and procurement of hardware, software and systems service vendors while working closely with law enforcement operations
- Establishes a maintenance schedule, equipment replacement schedule and inventory of programs and equipment
- Analyzes and resolves software, hardware, and system equipment malfunctions
- Sets policies to ensure the integrity and privacy of data and the security of all systems
- Compiles reports from a wide variety of sources and transmit data;
Identifies requirements and recommends information technology solutions to improve processes; Initiates or participates in system analysis studies - Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures
- Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions
- Follows Sheriff’s Office safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting, and monitoring as outlined in the Sheriff’s Office Policies
- Required Skills, Abilities, and/or Working Knowledge:
- Data systems, hardware and software as they relate to Criminal Justice Information Systems
- Computer control systems and office computer systems in a compound Microsoft Domain controlled network environment with EqualLogic, Compellent, Synology or other storage systems
- Configure and manage VMware’s datacenter solutions
- Analyze and monitor virtual resource pools, server utilization and availability
- Mobile Applications, running wireless communications in CJIS secure connection; VPN, IPSEC, NetMotion connection management or other mobile applications used by agency
- Strong customer service, communication, phone etiquette and presentation skills. Including teamwork and collaboration with ability to maintain effective relationships with all personnel
- Demonstrates predictable attendance with punctuality
- Ability and willingness to learn and understand subject matter principles and techniques that pertain to this role
- Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines

Qualifications
- Valid, active Florida Driver’s License
- High school diploma or GED
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field with five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in information technology management; (comparable work experience in the criminal justice/law enforcement field working directly with information technology systems may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education).
- Successfully pass a criminal history background check with fingerprints.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience within a law enforcement technology discipline or a state or local government. Supervisory and management experience.
- Work experience in criminal justice information systems project management.
