What Your Job Will Be Like
Sandia National Laboratories is seeking to hire a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to support our Infrastructure Engineering Team! We are looking for a detail/results-orientated and passionate teaming individual to support a dynamic team in the maintenance, operations, and life cycle asset management of our high/medium power distribution system.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Create, update, and implement asset management plans, maintenance plans, and system sustainment plans and projects.
- Assess conditions of existing equipment and site infrastructure and make recommendations for improvements.
- Perform electrical system analysis and modeling of electrical systems.
- Support the Planning Department in locating future building sites to understand and support the direction of the Long-Range Development Plan.
- Lead the development of outage procedures and provide operations and maintenance support.
- Support of the design of new power distribution assets, substations and feeder systems.
- Assess the impacts of renewable energy systems on the existing distribution system.
- Conduct code compliance assessments and develop solutions for nonconformance.
- Apply reliability-centered maintenance techniques to develop maintenance strategies to improve reliability.
- Collaborate with maintenance electrical personnel on efforts related to electrical distribution systems.
This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Salary Range
$88,600 – $172,300
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution plus 5 year’s of relevant electrical system design experience; or a Master’s degree in above field plus 1 year of relevant electrical system design experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
- NM Professional Engineering (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain a Professional Engineer license.
- Knowledge of maintenance requirements for high and low voltage system components including substation equipment, transformers, relays, switches, over-current protection devices, capacitor banks, overhead and underground distribution feeders, and underground duct banks.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards (1910 and 1926), Life Safety Code, NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze system drawings, construction plans, and system one-line schematics.
- Experience in electrical design of power distribution systems.
- Demonstrated ability to design building and infrastructure electrical systems.
- Experience working in a team environment with a focus on developing internal customer relationships.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.
About Our Team
The Infrastructure Engineering Department provides a comprehensive perspective of Operations and Engineering support for Sandia/NM site infrastructure systems and primary utility systems. We provide support to our mission partners related to site activities, determination of new project needs, and engineering solutions. Our department supports excavation and penetration activities as well as Facilities Graphic Information System (FGIS) support for Sandia/NM Facilities and Infrastructure systems.
