The Inspector – Park Construction inspects, investigates, evaluates, and checks various park maintenance, construction, waste management, transportation and other functional areas of the department. Works in the field to monitor code compliance and ensure all activities are in line with regulations and standards.
Essential Functions

1 Conducts inspections in an assigned geographical area to determine compliance with safety, structural, zoning, plans, and/or applicable codes and ordinances.

2 Investigates, researches, and tracks alleged violations of federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, and regulations; ensures corrections are made when deficiencies are discovered and assists in determining methods to achieve conformance.

3 Drafts and issues notices of violation and conducts follow-up inspections to ensure corrections are made.

4 Provides information to customers regarding codes and other regulatory requirements.

5 Assists and supports large scale and complex inspections; Investigates complex violations of City codes to enforce ordinances and maintain neighborhood integrity.

6 Inspects a variety of complex construction projects completed by contractors and other entities to ensure compliance with city’s paving and construction standards.

7 Evaluates floodplain and storm sewer flow areas to protect public and private property from flooding and to resolve drainage complaints to comply with the floodplain ordinance.

8 Conducts environmental inspections and investigations to protect the surface water run-off and storm water systems from unauthorized and/or hazardous contaminants.

9 Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of city, state, or federal codes, ordinances, rules, regulations and standards in specialized field.

2 Knowledge of inspection methods and procedures.

3 Knowledge of park maintenance and related functions.

4 Ability to perform inspections and identify code violations.

5 Ability to monitor compliance and support code enforcement.

6 Ability to keep accurate records; comprehend and make inferences from written material.

7 Communicating effectively and in writing.

8 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Experience

5 years of experience in park maintenance, building, construction, or inspection.

Licenses and Certifications

Must have a Class C State of Texas Driver’s license.

Education

High School Diploma, GED
