Snow College is seeking a dedicated student-focused individual to participate in the Pre-Engineering Program. This person should have a track record of mentoring individuals toward success. They should possess dynamic presentation skills and be capable of clear communication in an online and in person classroom environment. This person will work with the department to lead the creation of an online program and/or short-term certificates to support industry needs. This person will build bridges, through the online program, with post-secondary Technical Schools and technical classes and programs at high schools. Anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2023.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferably, candidates will have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Online teaching experience is preferred. Possession of professional experience and a continuous effort of professional development in online pedagogy is required.
  • He or she must have the ability to teach introductory courses in Mechanical Engineering. Preference will be given to those with experience with in manufacturing systems and material science. Further consideration is given to individuals with industry experience.
  • They must possess a student-oriented focus with an ability to inspire the best efforts of students in the classroom, lab, and practicum. Preference will be given to individuals with online teaching experience.
  • They must be proficient in written, oral, presentation, and speaking English. They must be eligible to work legally in the United States.
  • Candidates with experience in curriculum development and design; successful experience working with colleagues and in teams; skills to be an excellent recruiter, advisor, mentor, and connector; or experience working with underrepresented minority students will be given preference.

Major Responsibilities/Duties

Faculty are expected to teach 15 credit equivalencies per semester and assist in student mentoring, recruiting, and placement. Faculty work on a nine-month contract for Fall and Spring semesters. This is a non-research, teaching-focused, tenure-track position. They will teach typical undergraduate courses that prepare students to achieve an associate’s degree with an emphasis in Engineering. They may occasionally teach special topics courses in areas of personal interest. Faculty will help develop online course content to improve the reach of the engineering program. In addition, they will help prepare non-engineering students to matriculate into the engineering program.

They will participate in student recruitment and program marketing. They will advise and mentor mechanical, manufacturing, and civil engineering students. They will also help find employment opportunities for students after the completion of the program.

Faculty will also participate in engineering department growth and improvement as well as faculty development activities and college committee assignments.

In relation to the nature of this online position, the successful candidate will:

  • Complete Snow College’s Online Excellence training course
  • Work with the Teaching and Learning Center staff (e.g., Instructional Designers, Media Specialists) for quality course design
  • Participate in faculty development opportunities for online teaching
  • Participate in online mentoring process for course design
  • Create and share online course templates using the Canvas learning management system (LMS)
