Other Conditions:

General funds, to begin approximately January 2024, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. This assignment may include teaching on- and off-campus, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and distance education assignments using multiple teaching methodologies. Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Under general supervision, conduct non-credit and credit courses of instruction in technical, remedial, developmental, and college transfer math.
  2. Prepare, revise, and assess course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and college levels.
  3. Identify a range of student learning needs and implement constructive responses to them.
  4. Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments.
  5. Conduct academic advising of students and assist in campus-related student activities.
  6. Develop and maintain a professional self-improvement plan.
  7. Participate in division, college and community service as appropriate.
  8. Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
  9. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. (a) Master’s in Mathematics;
  2. OR (b) Master’s in Math Education with 18 credits of advanced coursework (300-400 level courses offered in a bachelor’s program) in math of which 9 credits are at the graduate level (post baccalaureate courses at the level specified by the institution where the credits were earned);
  3. OR (c) Master’s of Art in Teaching Math with 18 credits of advanced coursework (300-400 level courses offered in a bachelor’s program) in math, at least 9 of which are at the graduate level (post baccalaureate courses at the level specified by the institution where the credits were earned);
  4. OR (d) Master’s in STEM-related field (applied math, engineering, physical science, and biological science) with 18 credits of advanced coursework (300-400 level courses offered in a bachelor’s program) in math.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Teaching experience at the community college level in related math courses for technical programs, and in remedial, developmental, and transfer level courses, including statistics and applied mathematics.
  2. Experience with non-traditional teaching methods; knowledge and/or experience with delivering a course via distance education, e.g., on-line.
  3. Experience in course curriculum development.
  4. Knowledge and/or experience with competency-based education.
  5. Familiarity with assessment techniques.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work with peers and students in a multi-cultural setting.
  7. Good communication skills.
  8. Experience with lab-supported math instruction.
  9. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting equity and a diverse workforce/academic environment.
  10. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
