Other Conditions:

General funds, to begin approximately January 2024, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. This assignment may include teaching on- and off-campus, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and distance education assignments using multiple teaching methodologies. Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Under general supervision, conduct courses of instruction, traditional and non-traditional (transfer and non-transfer level).

  1. Prepare, revise, and assess course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program and college levels.
  2. Conduct academic advising of students and assist in campus-related student activities.
  3. Serve as the advisor for a Registered Independent Student Organization (RISO).
  4. Participate in department, college, and community service activities as appropriate.
  5. Develop and maintain an approved program of professional self-improvement.
  6. Independently plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments, including assessment.
  7. Work with colleagues and independently to develop curriculum and to identify, plan, develop, and implement teaching strategies to meet college, and community needs.
  8. Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
  9. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Sociology.

Desirable Qualification:

  1. Demonstrated ability to teach at the transfer and non-transfer levels at a community college or university.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of the community college philosophy.
  3. Demonstrated ability to teach in online and hybrid environments, as well as to integrate technology to support learning inside and outside the traditional classroom.
  4. Familiarity or experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work with peers and students in a multicultural setting.
  6. Effective communication skills.
  7. Experience in course and curriculum development.
  8. Ability to teach in at least one other disciplinary area.
  9. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience in promoting equity and a diverse workforce/academic environment.
  10. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
