Position Description:
CGI is seeking a detail-oriented individual with an intellectual property (IP) background to support CGI’s US IP protection program and provide transactional contracts support for commercial and state and local contracts in the United States. This position may ultimately be classified as either a corporate counsel or a contracts professional role based on the educational background and experience of the selected candidate. In this role you will have autonomy within key operational day to day activities while also enjoying the opportunity to work alongside colleagues on our geographically diverse and versatile team. You will have an opportunity to be mentored by, and provide leveraged support to, US legal counsel and senior level contracts professionals comprising the US legal team. Additionally, this role offers you the opportunity to collaborate with outside counsels and with legal colleagues across CGI globally.
This role is based in Fairfax, VA, but other non-federal locations in the US near a CGI office can be considered.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
• Perform preliminary trademark clearance searches, review, and assess comprehensive trademark searches as necessary, file and prosecute trademark applications, renew/maintain global trademark registrations, and lead external counsels.
• Work with US product teams to review Open-Source Software licenses.
• Manage the activities of external counsel in connection with the filing and prosecution of patents.
• Work with outside counsel on IP enforcement matters.
• Work on litigation matters involving CGI IP.
• Support IP due diligence activities related to merger & acquisition projects.
• Collaborate with other internal teams on branding strategies and guidelines, etc.
• Provide copyright-related advice and prosecute copyright applications.
• Manage corporate IP Protection guidelines.
• Review of routine contractual agreements and request for proposal documents; and
• Ad-hoc tasks as assigned.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• Undergraduate degree from accredited institution; law degree is a plus.
• At least three (3) years of experience working in a corporate environment or at a law firm.
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients at multiple levels.
• Understanding of intellectual property laws including with respect to trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and open-source software.
• A basic understanding of routine contract documents (e.g., non-disclosure, agreements, teaming agreements, services agreements etc.);
• Demonstrated partnership and collaboration in a professional setting with a geographically dispersed team.
• Must be detail oriented and organized with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of Microsoft applications to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Working knowledge of patent law is a plus.

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to abilities, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $106,300 – $223,300.”
