Duties
- Ensures that hiring practices, employee training, employee development and utilization, promotions, and assignments are in keeping with organizational policies.
- Oversees the planning, managing, and evaluating of all projects/activities of the organization.
- Leading the research, design, and implementation of statistical, mathematical, data and computer science methods.
- Consults and advises the Chief, CODS and high-level Census Bureau statisticians on the potential and limitations of computational, data science, statistical methods and technical issues central to major revisions to current statistical programs.
- Directs and manages the design, development, and adaptation of statistical methods for the analysis of census data to collect, extract, engineer, and transform data from traditional and non-traditional sources.

This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Interdisciplinary Supervisory (Mathematical Statistician or Computer Scientist or Data Scientist), 1529/1550/1560, 15, FPL None positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
Minimum Education Requirement:
For 1529 (Mathematical Statistician) Series:
Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
OR
Combination of education and experience: At least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
For 1550 (Computer Scientist) Series:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science OR Bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
For 1560 (Data Scientist) Series:
Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
AND
Specialized Experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Managing employee hiring and training practices following organization policies; Oversees the planning and evaluating of organization projects/activities.; Leading research, design, and implementation of statistical, mathematical, data, and/or computer science methods; Advising senior staff on computational, statistical methods and/or technical issues.
Education: Education cannot be substituted at this grade level.
