Framatome is seeking an Intern/Co-Op Chemical Engineer for our Horn Rapids Road office in Richland, Washington.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform a sintering study at the Framatome Richland site by using a test furnace and compare results to the standard production furnaces. The final deliverable from this position will be a report presenting results and recommendations.
- Find comparable sintering conditions between batch and production furnaces. Describe the sintering cycle (cycle time, temperature, atmosphere, dew point, etc.)
- Reproduce sintering of production. Provide recommendation of sintering cycle, type of boat/curcible for sintering UO2, Gd, Cr pellets in batch in test furnace. Sintering of a full production boat of “green” pellets in test furnace, check pellet characteristics/comparison with production results. Sintering of smaller quantities of gree pellets inside production furnaces. Check pellet characteristics/comparison with test furnace. Use of crucible: size, pellet stack, etc.
- Comparison of sintering furnaces. Describe Richland furnaces for the different production lines. Compare with Framatome affiliate and support writing of report comparing sintering furnaces across the Fuels group.

Required Experience
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering

- Strong technical problem-solving abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills

The range of base salary for the position is between $20 – $25 per hour, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
