Description
Black Diamond is looking for an exceptional Footwear Design Intern to work in tight coordination with Design Leadership on all aspects of design on assigned footwear products at Black Diamond Equipment. These projects and assignments may include form and function, color, human interaction, ergonomics, graphics, and other related aesthetic aspects of assigned footwear product.
The Footwear Design Intern may:
- Support in the creation of in-line concepts and new designs for projects ranging from simple to high technical complexity.
- Support in the creation of concepts through brainstorming and other creative processes.
- Support in Creation of sketches, renderings, presentations mockups, prototypes, or other representations of the design as appropriate to each specific project.
- Support in the creation of appropriate color options, product graphics, logos, and other markings
- With the help of design lead and development select appropriate materials and correct manufacturing processes/techniques
- Work closely with the Design Team Leads & Development to ensure the selected vendor is building parts and products to the design intent.
- Follow and adhere to the timeline requirements of the assigned project
- Present project status in regularly with design team
- Process design changes in a timely and accurate manner.
- Research new materials and technologies for potential use for Black Diamond produ

Requirements:
- Portfolio showcasing proficiency in Footwear Design and Industrial Design
Skills and general experience:
- Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketching, and Microsoft Suite
- Extra points for Rhino, Gravity Sketch, and 3D modeling skills
- Must demonstrate skills in creating compelling footwear design, the ability to sketch, concept, create renderings and model products in a way that clearly communicates design intent and technical function.
- Must possess a working knowledge of activities for which we design products (Ex. Trail Running, Climbing, Hike/Approach/ Etc.).
- Must have the ability to conduct research, present project status, communicate clearly, meet deadlines, use word processing, spreadsheets, email, and other basic computer skills.
Required licenses: Drivers License
As a BD intern, you will receive competitive pay of $15-20/Hour and a great experience. The internship is project based and offers flexible scheduling, but we are looking for someone who can devote 20 to 40 hours per week, during normal working hours (Mon – Fri, 8 AM – 5 PM). This internship will run from two to six months in duration.
