TITLE: IRRIGATION DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT MANAGER (RAINCO)
LOCATION: BAKERSFIELD, CA
COMPENSATION: $75,000 – $90,000 / YEAR
PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for assisting the management of Grimmway’s Irrigation Department, internally referred to as RAINCO.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for all aspects of irrigation equipment scheduling, equipment transportation/delivery, personnel scheduling/assignment, departmental operational improvements, technology initiatives & daily administrative functions.
- Plan efficient use of labor force and maintain Grimmway’s quality, quantity and efficiency standards.
- Manage operations to ensure maximum daily productivity.
- Ensure budget guidelines are achieved.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Manage equipment PM and R&M.
- Ensure material procurement guidelines are met.
- Ensure all work is conducted in tandem with key stakeholders to maximize farm performance.
- The Irrigation Department Assistant Manager may also be required to do other job duties as needed that are not specifically outlined in this list of essential job functions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to work outdoors. Ability to continuously work with product and equipment at ground level. Ability to work on uneven terrain both on food and while about moving equipment. Ability to get on and off various stationary and moving equipment. Must wear corrective lenses if required/listed on driver’s license. Must be able to move items weighing up to 50 lbs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences or Ag Business management (or related major) required.
- Managerial experience providing leadership, problem resolution, motivation, and team building in a bi-lingual setting (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Must be business-minded with the ability to effectively manage budgets, produce results, to set objectives for self and team, and be accountable for both.
- Must have 1 to 3 years of experience working directly with irrigation equipment on farms and/or direct experience in retail Ag irrigation industry.
- Must have specific knowledge of the following types of irrigation: solid set; drip, center pivot; lateral pivot.
- Familiarity with software and automation related to these systems required.
- Must understand principles of operations planning process, forecasting, and integration of demand and supply plans.
- Must also be familiar with the principles of irrigation equipment maintenance, the repair process, and managing product inventory.
- Must possess effective communication skills between all levels of personnel and other departments.
- Must be able to plan ahead and lay out work schedules in advance but also have the ability to modify work plans and meet expectations despite changing work and field conditions.
- Must be organized, detail oriented, and timely in work habits.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other proprietary software as needed.
- Overnight travel required seasonally, up to 25% during some times of the year.
- Remote work not available for this position.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record.
- Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen, physical and functional capacity evaluation.
