Position Summary
Operate and maintain large, self-contained irrigation systems including pump stations, underground piping, valves, wiring, sprinklers and controllers; perform soil moisture analysis checks and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours vocational training in landscaping; and
Two (2) years experience performing irrigation system maintenance and repair.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
May be required to work weekends/holidays/odd days off/shift work
Preferred Knowledge
- Operational characteristics, services and activities of golf course maintenance
- Functions and operations of automated irrigation systems and activating devices
- Functions and operations of a golf course irrigation pump station, including the pumps, motors, manifolds, valves, and the pump control system
- Weather station maintenance and monitoring procedures
- Turf management practices including soil amending, fertilizing and pesticides
- Operation of backhoe, trencher and other irrigation equipment
- Basic electrical, mechanical and plumbing procedures
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Lead, organize and review the work of staff in the area of work assigned
- Independently perform the most difficult irrigation system maintenance and repairs
- Independently perform the most difficult pump house system maintenance and repairs
- Troubleshoot and repair irrigation system failures
- Rebuild sprinkler heads, control valves, pressure relief valves and controllers
- Operate a variety of complex irrigation system maintenance and repair equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner
- Operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Perform heavy manual labor
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
