Position Summary
Perform basic repairs and adjustments to irrigation systems and controllers; work with and assist higher level staff with more complex installation, maintenance and repair tasks; check and adjust automatic controllers according to season or as directed and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Specialized training in sprinkler repair, irrigation systems maintenance or a related field preferred.
Must successfully complete Irrigation Specialist Training orientation within six (6) months and Irrigation Specialist Training Program Level I one (1) year from date of hire.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Be accepted as a trainee and complete the Irrigation Specialist I Training and Certification Program.
Possession of a New Mexico Irrigation Certificate (JS-6) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a New Mexico Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester/Repair Certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.

- General maintenance and repair methods and techniques
- Basic record keeping techniques
- Basic vehicle maintenance and safety check procedures

- Learn the operations, services and activities of assigned maintenance program
- Learn methods and techniques of irrigation systems
- Learn operational characteristics of complex irrigation systems including electric valves and electromechanical and digital controllers
- Learn operational characteristics of specialized irrigation equipment and tools
- Recognize occupational hazards and implement standard safety practices
- Learn basic characteristics of water chemistry, physics and velocity
- Operate a variety of irrigation system maintenance and repair equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Learn basic irrigation troubleshooting methods
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
