The anticipated salary range for this role is between $129,000.00 and $185,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
Americas Division (AD) Technology is establishing this role to support the implementation and governance of a consistent set of Data controls owned and operated by the Information Technology (IT) department of Sumitomo Banking Corporation (SMBC).
In this role you will leverage Data Governance subject matter expertise to guide Technology towards becoming compliant with the Bank’s required data controls. The focus of the Data Management controls environment includes, but is not limited to: Data Quality, Data Lineage, Records Retention and Data Issues Management. Additionally, the candidate should be familiar with how to identify and define Key Data Elements (KDEs), capture metadata, and developing data quality rules.
This role also will support the overall AD IT Controls program overseeing, tracking, and reporting on all related implementation, remediation, and testing efforts including the work of any external resources.
Role Objectives
- Serves as the Technology leader of Data Governance initiative through identifying and supporting the Data Owners, Data Stewards, and Data Custodians
- Advocates and promotes the Policies and Standards enacted by the Chief Data Officer (CDO) and ensures that any local requirements are raised and addressed
- Ensures reporting to local management though appropriate governance forums
- Participates directly in or assigns subject matter experts to participate in Local Data Officer (LDO) Groups as requested by the CDO
- Ensures timely and accurate responses to and the prioritization of requests made to their entity by the CDO and the EDGC
- Conduct periodic status meetings with group company primary contacts, including senior management, to provide updates, ascertain remediation status and address any remediation concerns
- Address queries from IAD (Internal Audit) and ORM (Operational Risk Management) related to Data control implementation, remediation, and testing where applicable.
- Evaluate periodic updates from authoritative sources and their effects on current control requirements recommending updates if appropriate
- Provide overall Program Management of the Technology Data Controls program identifying, planning, tracking, and reporting on each stream of work as required
- Provide support and expertise to other AD IT Controls streams of work in coordination with other AD IT Controls team members
Qualifications and Skills
- 5-7 years of experience governing data with exposure to data definition creation, data quality rule creation, data issue management and root cause identification
- Experience interfacing with Internal Audit and external stakeholders (e.g., US regulators) a plus
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Familiarity with DQIM, Collibra, Denodo and other data management industry tools
- Understanding of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs)
- Experience executing control testing, reporting, and tracking control remediation
- Ability to influence responsible parties (including senior management) working in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd lines of defense regarding Data controls requirements and remediation activities.
