Why does the job exist?
This position will perform work on the Department’s hardware, software, network, infrastructure and web-based access. The position will provide technical support, configuration, deployment, maintenance, upgrade, security, and troubleshooting for hardware/software installations; and server-based applications. This position will provide specialized technical support, configuration, deployment, maintenance, upgrade, troubleshooting, security, disaster mitigation, and disaster recovery for systems, operations, and technologies in the Department’s statewide enterprise environment. It will serve as the help desk team lead within the Department on matters concerning hardware, networking, infrastructure, operating systems, security, and backup/recovery operations. The position performs at an advanced level and demonstrates in-depth knowledge and skill in one or more specific infrastructure hardware and operating system technologies. The incumbent works with internal and external customers statewide on a wide array of issues, including hardware, software, network, infrastructure; assisting in the implementation, evaluation and feasibility of IT technical solutions; researching, defining and implementing emerging technology trends, technical issues, system components, interfaces, protocols, and architecture; and ensuring compliance with state and federal statutes and guidelines.
How does it get done?
Participate in the technical analysis and implementation of enterprise desktop systems, peripherals, and solutions that provide an effective and reliable computing environment in support of Agency goals and objectives and to serve as the Department’s technical support first point of contact for access, usability, and availability issues involving the Department’s information technology resources by providing specialized technical support, configuration, deployment, maintenance, upgrade, patch management, troubleshooting, and related operations and technologies in the Department’s hardware, software, network and infrastructure.
Identify, track, control and document technical issues while sharing these issues with and communicating these issues to Department staff. In addition, perform technical disaster recovery activities to protect mission-critical data and electronic service delivery structures.
Perform planning and analysis, agency/user coordination, and administrative support functions. Such as implementing established standards for configuring, deploying, troubleshooting. updating, and maintaining systems, software, file structures, programs, procedures, directories, and security and monitor, test and validate enterprise implementations for effectiveness, accuracy, and security.
Who are the customers?
The Information Systems Division (ISD) is responsible for building and maintaining all of the technologies employed by the Department (New Mexico Department of Game & Fish).
This position will support the day to day operations by providing systems administration/help desk functions to all NMDGF users in utilizing the NMDGF information systems as well as working the ISD management in support of new/updating to the NMDGF infrastructure. The position reports to the Operations Section Supervisor within ISD.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have technical certifications from CompTIA or Microsoft and experience with Microsoft Windows, Mac, or Linux based operating systems; experience managing a Microsoft Windows Domain Network and configuring cyber security settings on systems.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of experience in providing technical support to end-users for computer hardware, software, and/or network related problems. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Moderate lifting, climbing, bending, stretching, standing, walking, exposure to noise, exposure to electro-mechanical technical equipment, exposure to electrical shock hazard, exposure to cold (data center), extended periods of sitting and typing.
