IT Field Services Technician – Los Angeles, CA

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Field Services Technician to work in our Downtown Los Angeles Headquarters office. Reporting to the Sr. IT Manager, the Field Services Technician performs onsite technical work across Planned Parenthood Health sites across Los Angeles. This is a role that manages and completes equipment installations, end user and network systems hardware installation and setups, and coordinates light engineering activities including cabling installations, knowledge of electrical and phones cabling required. This role works cross-functionally with other departments including Facilities, the Health Center Managers and Supervisory Team to support the onsite technology needs of our health centers.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:

    • Ability and willingness to travel within Los Angeles County.
    • Reliable means of transportation for onsite and off-site work.
    • If using a personal vehicle to drive for work purposes, a valid CA driver license with a driving record that does not contain moving vehicle violations / citations within the last 7 years
    • Maintains current auto insurance in compliance with the minimum requirements of CA vehicle code are required. Associate degree or relevant certification and equivalent experiences required. Bachelors degree preferred.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of general IT experience and two (2) years of systems and network experience.
    • Intermediate experience in TCP/IP networking, switching, routing, VoIP, and firewalls.
    • In-depth experience in server and storage hardware, VM hosts, interconnectivity of LAN/WAN/SAN systems and server platforms, including configuration and troubleshooting.
    • Experience with Citrix, VPNs, and DR platforms, i.e. Veeam, Backup Exec.
    • Knowledge of system monitoring tools and commands to ensure quick resolution to issues.
    • Understanding of the information security implications of technology solutions and undertake proactive measures to ensure compliance with the Information Security policies and processes.
    • Heath Care experience preferred.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences.

    • Ability to prioritize and manage numerous projects.

About the position:

    • Works in a cross-functional team to coordinate with external and internal teams for onsite technology implementations, including network cabling needs, HVAC, UPS, ISP and phone services account and equipment setups, end user hardware provisioning, and software deployments and telecommunication needs.
    • Develops and fosters strong, collaborative relationships with the PPLA site staff and leaderships.
    • Installs and setups end user stations and equipment, including desktops & laptops, printers, and peripherals.
    • Coordinates any onsite permitting needs in regards to electrical or other permits, in collaboration with Facilities and any general contractors.
    • Acts as a key technical liaison for onsite staff to support their end user support needs as well as an IT representative for onsite technical visits.
    • Provides onsite and remote Tier 1 & 2 technical support and training for health center office and HQ staff.
    • Coordinates and leads technical vendor activities onsite for new services, equipment deployments, including for infrastructure, telecommunications and other service providers including permitting needs.
    • Provides regular, well-organized reports and progress updates to stakeholders.
    • Ensures high availability of enterprise voice and data platforms that support internal employee business functions and external customer contact.
    • Sets up and maintenance of Windows Servers, Active Directory, DC, DNS, Exchange, Virtualization, Storage, and network switches, WAPs, firewalls, and VoIP.
    • Conducts routine hardware/software audits of servers to ensure compliance with standard policies, configurations, and up-to-date patching.
    • Determines when systems are underperforming and works with IT team when upgrades or replacements are needed.
    • Assists with network monitoring, log management for network, servers, WAPs, and firewalls for connectivity and security. Execute incident response procedures as needed.
    • Follows Standard Operating Procedures and executes Change Management process for network and system – and make recommendations as needed.
    • Assists with planning and implementing systems and network integrations, as needed.
    • Proactively monitor computing platforms for performance issues, and respond within SLA timelines and escalate incidents according to incident handling guidelines.
    • Demonstrates and practices defined testing for changes in the production environment.
    • Works with IT management to coordinate and plan infrastructure initiatives.
    • Provides guidance, documentation, and appropriate training to PPLA technical and other employees on support of implemented technologies.
    • Primary driver for IT department including but not limited to delivery and installation of equipment throughout the Agency.
    • Responsible for keeping PPLA vehicle in proper working condition including maintenance and weekly washes, if assigned to drive company vehicle.
    • Report any mechanical or other problems with PPLA vehicle, if assigned to drive company vehicle.
    • Perform daily pre-trip inspection of company vehicle and submit report to the Senior IT Manager, if assigned to drive company vehicle
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior IT Manager and/or VP of IT.
