About the Job:
As the Correctional Training Officer, you will be responsible for providing specialized instruction for both new and veteran employees of the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC). In this position, you will work under supervision to update and implement training programs. You will provide support instruction at the Correctional Training Institute, as needed.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Conduct and assist in new employee, annual, and on-the-job training for all staff.
- Assist in the development of training curricula to meet specific performance objectives.
- Test, measure, and evaluate trainee performance based on established standards.
- Assist supervisor to ensure that all training programs, procedures, methods, and standards are in compliance with established standards.
- Maintain a variety of training records, course information, and prepare written reports.

What You’ll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
- Two (2) years of full-time experience in corrections, education, in-service training, or related experience.
- Working knowledge of principles and practices of Staff Development and Training Division including Administrative Procedures.
- Working knowledge of “Adult Learning” principles.
- Working knowledge of training correctional issues, treatment programs, custody issues, ACA standards and departmental policies and procedure.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to present and execute detailed lesson plans.
- Ability to successfully complete all required training, including the Train the Trainer programs.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides supervision for offenders and requires a high level of judgment and care.
