Why does the job exist?
The IT Systems Administrator II will:
- Design, install, configure, optimize, and maintain the integrity of highly complex information systems such as Microsoft 365, VMware and Cloud environments;
- Deliver expertise and supervision of modern hyper-converged and Cloud infrastructures containing virtual servers;
- Design and allocate resources to support multiple environments of all ranges of testing and production;
- Develop long-term strategic and capacity utilization plans of a cloud computing service environment ranging from full applications and development platforms, to server, storage and virtual desktops.
How does it get done?
The IT Systems Administrator II is responsible for:
- Performing maintenance on servers, administering COTS, supporting Department’s virtual private networking (VPN), and maintaining all virtualized and Cloud systems;
- Leading and working on large complex system deployment projects in a team environment;
- Applying knowledge of security trends and best practices;
- Administering storage and backup solutions on premise and in the Cloud;
- Developing long-term strategic and capacity utilization plans;
- Resolving system emergencies with significant impact on the integrity of user data and systems;
- Establishing software and hardware standards and systems policies and procedures.

The IT Systems Administrator II supports all HSD Employees, contractors, citizens, and partners.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has:
- Experience in Cloud System Administration;
- Experience with Microsoft Systems Administration;
- Experience with VMware administration.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in systems administration. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive phone and personal computer usage. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
