Why does the job exist?
The IT Systems Administrator III will:
- Work at a high level to support HSD systems across multiple business areas, and large infrastructure environments in VMware and AWS;
- Involve disaster recovery planning and execution, infrastructure design and security, as well as providing high level server, active directory, VPN, and endpoint support.
How does it get done?
The IT Systems Administrator III is responsible for:
- Working collaboratively with the systems administration team on infrastructure design, planning, optimization and security;
- Working closely with HSD security to respond to threats, risks, compliance issues;
- Configuration and support of complex AWS infrastructure environments (EC2 and VPC configuration and deployment, S3 management, IAM and security management, etc.)
- Supporting of Windows and Linux OS, AD, DNS, DCHP, AzureAD;
- Supporting endpoint management with MS Intune, Defender, KACE, and other tools and scripts;
- Evaluating new technologies and services;
- Configuring/Implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies;
- Assist in updating policies and documentation for system security and support;
- Technical research and best practices application;
- Mentoring other team members;
- Escalation level technical customer support.

The ideal candidate has:
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and four (4) years of experience in systems administration. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal history background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. This position is required to respond to New Mexico Department of Health staff, and the New Mexico Department of Health Operation Center in an event of a disaster or emergency.
