This is a fantastic opportunity to provide leadership in a mission critical technical support area, delivering key IT services as well as advancing new and enhanced solutions that make a visible, tangible difference in the Pierce County Auditor’s Office operations and services to our residents.
Your area of focus will be providing technical service and operational leadership to the Pierce County Auditor’s Office partnering with the Information Technology Division of the Finance Department. The Pierce County Auditor’s Office is responsible for Elections, Licensing Services, and Public Records. In this position, you will provide knowledge and guidance as a dedicated IT engineer, overseeing and managing all information technology assets within the Auditor’s Office. You will also work closely with vendors, the Washington Office of the Secretary of State, and other internal and external entities as needed for business operations. You will directly consult and advise the Pierce County Auditor and business unit managers on technical issues, concerns, cybersecurity recommendations, strategic planning, IT budgeting, and system reviews.
You will also be a member of the IT Client Technology Services team which is comprised of positive and supportive IT professionals who provide direct service and support to all County departments and partner agencies. You work alongside leadership in the Auditor’s Office and Information Technology Division to define and drive strategies that reinforce our reputation as a leader in innovation and service.
You will also have the opportunity to learn and develop into this critical role while working alongside the incumbent engineer. During this period of working alongside the incumbent engineer, you will be working in-person. After you assume this role, a work schedule with partial teleworking will be considered as this position will need ongoing presence and proximity to the worksite.

How to be Successful in the Role:
We are looking for a passionate, collaborative, and creative IT service delivery leader. You will be a strategic thinker who is experienced in delivering IT support for technologies that underpin licensing, election and recording systems, as well as in advising on, and supporting, required user computing standards. Being able to communicate across all levels of the organization, modifying your work approach based on stakeholders and having a willingness to make quick sound decisions is imperative. You will oversee the workflow and the development of technologies then pivot to interact with Auditor’s Office leadership and stakeholders, and IT Division leadership.
Your Future in this Role:
This team is crucial to ensuring that key solutions are engineered, implemented, and supported in a secure and cost-effective manner in order to achieve the needs of the public, Auditor officials, and IT leadership. You will be instrumental in our mission to implement, maintain and manage Auditor Office technologies and technology dependent processes that provide a critical impact to the County. In this key lead role, you will have the opportunity and accountability to influence future direction of technologies supporting the elections and recording functions of the Auditor, while working alongside the larger Client Technology Services and IT team.
Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Oversee and lead coordination of activities for the critical technologies used by the Pierce County Auditor, including defining work procedures, preparing work plans, strategic planning, providing expert advice, and conducting regular service management meetings for operations and planning. Maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding changes in the IT industry related to elections and recording, sharing ideas with leadership, and recommend changes based on these developments.
- Provide highly skilled support to maintain and administer the six Auditor critical business applications in areas of Elections, Recording, and Licensing.
- Be responsible for the delivery of services and support in defined specific program areas as the primary IT service owner for technologies and services, including service delivery strategies and processes, financial spend planning and review, vendor management and continuous improvement.
- Provide a primary technical lead role for system administration and operations of elections and recording system service integrations meeting security and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with senior business leaders, team members, and technical staff to ensure customer’s needs are well understood, agreed upon, and met, while providing exceptional customer service.
- Provide a technical lead role in the application of user endpoint device standards with operational support for a variety of service platforms including kiosks, handhelds, desktops, workstations, and laptop hardware, associated operating systems and application software.
- Provide advanced direct consulting services for assigned departments regarding technology budgeting, computing solutions, client-oriented technology project implementation, relocation services, user application productivity and training needs.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in information technology, computer sciences, business, public administration or related field AND
- Six or more years of information technology experience required
- Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years progressive experience as an endpoint services engineer in a large and diverse user environment.
- Working Experience and knowledge of elections related technologies including oversight of cyber-security and regulatory factors.
- Applied experience with data access and reporting related productivity tools, including Microsoft reporting services and front-end tools, to ensure smooth integrations and implementations.
- Applied experience in application database administration, including back-up and restore, job maintenance and user administration.
- Progressive experience in developing solutions using Microsoft products.
- Working knowledge of Azure Active Directory and the Microsoft Identity Platform.
- Familiarity with application monitoring tools, reviewing log files, and be available on occasion for off hours emergency or planned support for critical applications.

After approximately six months, employees receive six days of vacation leave.

Personal Holidays:

Furlough:
Some Pierce County employees may be designated to receive 10 “furlough” days per year in lieu of holidays. Furlough days are available for use on January 1 and must be scheduled and taken within the calendar year. Employees who leave employment with Pierce County must reimburse the employer for used furlough days based upon the number of remaining holidays.
Sick Leave:
Sick leave accrues on a bi-weekly basis, at the rate of one day per month.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation:
