This position will help support the Indiana University Police Department on the Indianapolis campus. Indiana University Public Safety pursues IU’s commitment to providing the greatest degree of safety for all members of the IU community, consistent with the university’s mission and environment, applicable legal and professional standards, and available resources. IU Public Safety directly oversees the IU Police Department, University Environmental Health and Safety , and Emergency Management and Continuity with a team of approximately 300 dedicated staff on a 24/7/365 operational basis across all campuses.
Job Summary
- Develops, communicates, and enforces appropriate processes and procedures for dispatch center(s).
- Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal regulations for communication and record management to include retention and destruction, accuracy and safe storage of records, report requirements and retrieval; makes recommendations to leadership on policy and process changes.
- Acts as a senior point of escalation to analyze and prioritize requests for emergency services and complaints involving fires, accidents, disturbances, and criminal activities from various sources and in a variety of communication methods (phone, radio, alarm systems, computer hardware/software, and face-to-face) for the university’s dispatch centers.
- Communicates and collaborates with public safety executive leadership, IUPD Command Staff, IU internal departments, external community organizations and other PSAPs; prepares budgetary and statistical reports for local, state and federal agencies as needed.
- Participates in hiring and performance management (as well as corrective action) of Public Safety Dispatch positions; leads, trains, instructs, and evaluates the work of less experienced dispatchers, including performance for completeness, accuracy, and compliance within established university and departmental standards; investigates and resolves complaints against dispatchers; coordinates and oversees dispatch training for new dispatchers and cadet officer.
- Organizes and facilitates state and federal audits of IDACS/NCIC.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This is an exempt position with an annual salary not to exceed $55,000.
