Intersport, a leader in sports, entertainment, and lifestyle marketing and media for more than three decades, provides expertise in the areas of: Agency Services (sponsorship consulting, experiential marketing, hospitality, content, digital, and social media marketing) and Assets (owned-and-operated media properties and live sports and lifestyle properties). Intersport is the official management firm (sales, marketing, and operations) of Detroit’s annual PGA TOUR event, the “Rocket Mortgage Classic,” and the owner and operator of THE JOHN SHIPPEN. THE JOHN SHIPPEN (TJS) is named after John Shippen, Jr, who was not only the first black golf professional to play in the US Open in 1896, but was also the first American born golf professional. TJS will recognize the top Black golfers, amateur and professional, whose stories, like that of John Shippen, Jr., remain unknown. TJS will host two Black golf invitationals this summer – the men’s winner will receive a special exemption into the Rocket Mortgage Classic PGA TOUR event and the women’s winner will receive a special exemption into an LPGA Tour event. Additionally, TJS has been designed to increase Black representation in business and leadership roles in golf and across all professional sports. In support of that effort, TJS will also conduct a sports business summit where athletes, influencers and business professionals share their experiences and advice on the pursuit of a career in the business of sports.
