Kansas Women’s Basketball Social Media & Creative Video Manager

Are you a creative and focused social media expert? Do you have experience producing creative videos from start to finish, including on-camera experience?

This is a great opportunity to join the 2023 Postseason WNIT Champion team, and help us build on a strong social media foundation with creativity and energy. We are looking for an outgoing, collaborative professional to help Kansas Women’s Basketball grow into our next phase of creativity, engagement and connection. In this role you will attend home games, away games, and other events (as needed) to support content creation, and be the voice for the Kansas Jayhawks Women’s Basketball team on our various social media platforms. You will live tweet gameday and play action, while having room for growth and the opportunity to expand on other creative skills such as on-camera segments and creative video creation.

Position Summary

The Social Media and Creative Video Manager is responsible for managing the content creation and the day-to-day management of Kansas Women’s Basketball social media accounts to attract, communicate, and engage with all audience members. This position will also create engaging video content for all social media and communication platforms. This position will report to the Director of Creative Content for Kansas Women’s Basketball, while working collaboratively with the Jayhawk Creative Services team.

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics

  1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures;
  2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures;
  3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit;
  4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
  5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members;
  6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road.
  7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

  1. Under direction of Director of Creative Content for Women’s Basketball, develop relevant and compelling content and creative videos for the Kansas Women’s Basketball team social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) that engages fans and encourages follower growth;
  2. Daily management of the Kansas Women’s Basketball team social media platforms, generating engaging and audience-centric content, and effectively communicate Kansas Women’s Basketball vision and team culture;
  3. Leveraging trends and analytic tools, define and drive a social media growth strategy that includes developing an online “voice” and tone, channel guidelines, goals, and audience targets to align with team goals;
  4. Provide real time coverage at all major events and games for Women’s Basketball, while writing compelling captions, creating engaging concepts, and posting across the various social media platforms;
  5. Maintain a content calendar to ensure promotion of appropriate team-related content, events, programs, and marketing efforts are properly implemented;
  6. Stay current with best practices, algorithm changes, and latest tools. Provide weekly reports on social media campaign performance along with strategies and/or recommendations for long term marketing growth and increased engagement;
  7. Promote inclusivity, conversation and engagement on platforms by joining in relevant dialog and aligning with meaningful cultural trends. Monitor fan sentiment and identify ways to increase reach and engagement;
  8. Collaborate with Jayhawk Creatives Services by attending meetings, and participating in opportunities for capturing content with Kansas Athletics external teams (marketing, communications, etc.);
  9. Create, edit, and share video content that engages the Kansas Women’s Basketball fanbase and attracts high-level recruits;
  10. In consultation with the Director of Creative Content for Women’s Basketball, develop creative storyboards, write scripts and video shot lists for creative video projects, film and edit creative video content;
  11. Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of Athletics or their designee.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in from an accredited college or university;
  • 2-5 years of multimedia experience in marketing communications, social media management or production, broadcast journalism, media, or similar field;
  • Experience producing creative videos from start to finish, including on-camera experience;
  • Deep knowledge and proven results of crafting and implementing innovative social media growth strategies;
  • Demonstrated working experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud (Premier Pro and After Effects);
  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • Excellent verbal, written, computer, and personal relations skills;
  • Ability to deliver quality work in a fast-paced, high volume environment;
  • Ability to work an irregular schedule including, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications
• Photography and graphic design experience;
• Demonstrated measurable success in social media engagement growth at the collegiate level;
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of social media analytics;
• Demonstrated passion and knowledge for the sport of Basketball.

Annual Base Salary: $50,000

Work Environment
This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at sports-related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

Travel
Moderate travel is expected for this position, with increased frequency during basketball season and post-season competitions and success.

Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the department, sports teams, and as job duties demand. Early morning, evening and weekend work is required.
