General Summary
Responsible for performing various jobs related to animal control and maintenance of the kennel. Including, but not limited to maintenance of animal shelter, documentation of citizen complaints, feeding and care of animals, and other tasks as required. Approximately 20 hours per week. The Animal Control Officer provides general supervision.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain care of animals and the animal shelter.
- Give animals food and medication as required
- Must be able to deal amicably with the public
- Assist with City outreach events such as low-cost vaccinations and pet adoption opportunities.
- Develop and maintain constructive relationships with City officials, other departments, community agencies and groups, and the general public regarding animal control.
- Handle complaints from citizens and work out resolutions as needed.
- Regular and prompt attendance is a requirement for the position
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic computer skills required
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to work outside.
- Ability to work sitting, standing, and moving about for periods of time.
- Ability to keep records, maintain schedule, and handle paperwork tasks.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Must be physically fit with the ability to lift or carry up to 80 pounds without assistance. Ability to push, pull, or carry up to 200 pounds with or without assistance.
Must be able to work on your feet for a continuous eight-hour shift in both indoor and outdoor locations.
Hearing and visual acuity are required.
