About this position
The City of Hillsboro is recruiting for a Kitchen Aide to join our team as we serve the community by preparing and serving lunches at the Hillsboro Community Senior Center. Our Senior Center enjoys an outstanding reputation for serving plated meals that are nutritious and deliciousNo food service experience? No problem! This is a part-time, entry level position with ample opportunity to learn how a commercial kitchen operates and how to serve large crowds.
The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent customer service skills and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. This work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Senior Center Chef, but the Kitchen Aide will need to work independently at times and be able to take initiative as needed. Typical hours are weekdays from 9 am to 2 pm, but may vary occasionally due to business need.
What you will be doing
The Kitchen Aide provides general support with the preparation, serving and cleanup of meals at the Hillsboro Community Senior Center.
- Helps prepare food and beverage items.
- Serves meals in dining area.
- Provides excellent customer service.
- Handles large containers of food and ensures proper food storage.
- Ensures prep area and dining area are kept clean and sanitized.
- Refills condiments and other supplies at tables and in serving areas.
- Washes dishes, pots, pans, and utensils.
- Removes trash and recycling daily.
- Follows program policies, rules, and regulations.
- Participates in meetings, training sessions, workshops.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Acceptable Experience and Training
- A high school diploma or GED
- Some experience in serving food for large groups or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- A current food handler’s card or the ability to obtain one by time of hire.
- The ability to attend work on a regular, predictable basis as scheduled.

Bilingual incentive pay available
Bilingual incentive pay is available – Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, or any language spoken by over ten percent (10%) of City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, at a proficiency level determined by a fluency test administered by the City, will receive a monthly premium of three percent (3%) of their regular base pay.
