Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is currently seeking a part-time Lab Manager! The Lab Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational performance of student lab assistant within the ceramics, sculpture, and 3D design classrooms and labs.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Supervises and trains student lab techs in the ceramic, sculpture, and 3D design labs, classrooms, and equipment: Mixes and maintains raw materials for glazing, production a clay making, ensures proper use of equipment, troubleshoots processes and equipment.
- Manages scheduling and use of equipment and labs. Maintains an accurate checkout and inventory system. Ensures equipment is not being abused and is returned and checked in same condition.
- Maintains and repairs specialized ceramic and sculpture equipment. Ensures inventory of all equipment is updated regularly and status of said equipment is accurate: proper working order, replacements ordered as needed, and potential improvements.
- Works directly with faculty to ensure efficient and productive work spaces and labs.
- Supervises students using the ceramic, sculpture, and 3D design labs, studios, and equipment during open lab hours. Ensures proper use of equipment and safety measures are followed.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in an area of expertise commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position OR a related combination of education and experience totaling four years.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
- Knowledge of pottery wheels, pug mill and glazing and clay materials.
- Knowledge of chemistry and equipment safety and maintenance.
- Well-developed interpersonal communication, problem solving, decision making and prioritization skills.
- Skills in performance and productivity of the labs.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Work with individuals from multiple skill levels and diverse backgrounds.
- Manage several diverse projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
- Work in a team environment.
- Be self-directed and complete tasks without supervision.
- Stay current in regards to ceramic, sculpture, and 3D design equipment and techniques.
