The Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) is one of Illinois’ most important and dynamic Agencies. This position is in the Fair Labor Standards Division in the Conciliation and Mediation Section. As a Labor Conciliator, you will assist citizens in recovering unpaid wages as required by the various laws enforced by the Department. Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably supplemented by courses in labor laws and labor problems.
- Requires three years of professional experience in industrial relations, the negotiation of labor disputes and contracts or general business management.
Preferred Qualifications (In order of significance)
- Two years of experience working with federal and/or state labor law and the procedures involved in conciliation, arbitration, mediation, and other negotiations for the settlement of labor disputes
- Two years of working knowledge of labor organizations and their legal basis, industrial personnel, and labor problems
- Two years of experience working with applicable state and federal labor law
- One year of experience preparing comprehensive reports with recommendations
- One year of experience doing investigations and conduct hearing and conferences
- Two years of experience in monitoring grantee programs and fiscal performance and providing technical assistance
- One year of experience in establishing contracts under Grant Accountability and Transparency Act, (GATA) guidelines
- One year of experience processing and storing confidential documents
- One year of using Microsoft Office suite, mainframe, and personal computer operations
Job Responsibilities
- Investigates, reviews, mediates, and settles complaints and alleged violations of the Illinois Prevailing Wage Act, the Equal Pay Act, and the Employee Classification Act.
- Prepares report of findings and recommendations related to investigations conducted under the Illinois Prevailing Wage Act, the Equal Pay Act, and the Employee Classification Act.
- Investigates, research, mediates and settles complaints and alleged violations of the Worker Adjustment and retraining Notification Act (WARN), whistleblower protections under the Environmental Protection Act and the Child Care Act, Equal Pay Act, VESSA, PRRA and other IDOL Labor Laws and related statues.
- Record/Enter investigation/case progress on case management tool log program
- Represents the agency at various governmental, educational, business and workforce related meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned which are within the scope of the position.
Conditions of Employment
