Job Summary

We are looking for a Laboratory Animal Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Poolesville, MD to help support our NIA (National Institute of Aging) client.

What you will do!
In the Laboratory Animal Technician II role, you will do daily observations to monitor animal health and welfare . You will also be tasked with performing animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals and environments to include daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage/run checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage/run cleaning as required; record animal health concerns; provide minor treatments as needed; and maintain animal housing areas. This role is also asked to assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of non-human primates; prepare and distribute daily food rations and enrichment as directed.

It will be necessary to maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, census. and housing or support areas; receive, inspect and put away incoming animals while following quarantine procedures. You will ensure compliance with and provide support to the nonhuman primate environmental enrichment and psychological well-being plan as well as PMP. In addition, assist in specific research proposals with the NIA (National Institute of Aging) research group.

Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate would possess a high school diploma or GED and have a minimum of one year of related animal care and handling experience non-human primates. Eligibility for the AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level required.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 – 24.00 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
