General Statement of Duties
Forsyth County Parks & Recreation is seeking a motivated individual willing to perform as a landscape professional. The person employed in this position would assist with all aspects of landscape maintenance as an individual as well as within a crew, helping to maintain over 1100 acres.
Responsible for skilled operation of various small equipment (chainsaws, weed-eaters, blowers, etc.), and the skilled operation of large equipment such as mowers, tractors, loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, and bucket truck.
Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM. May be required to work an alternate schedule on an as needed basis.
Distinguishing Features
A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Considerable knowledge of propagation and cultivation of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees
Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of landscape design and maintenance
Considerable knowledge of pesticides, fertilizers and techniques of application
Considerable knowledge of turf maintenance
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED and two years in landscape management.
Prefer Associates degree in horticulture or related field.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must have ability to obtain a pesticide license and CDL within 6 months of employment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for minimum qualifications requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
Lawn and tree maintenance (assisting staff Arborist)
Rose garden maintenance
installation of flower and landscape beds, spraying of pesticides, and pruning.
Assist with the installation and removal of various Special Events (such as the annual Festival of Lights) held in the Park.
Assist with special construction projects throughout the Park.
Responsible for skilled operation of various small equipment (chainsaws, weed-eaters, blowers, etc.), and the skilled operation of large equipment such as mowers, tractors, loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, and bucket truck.
