Role Summary
The Lead, Construction Program Manager (Special Projects) role works cross-functionally across all development disciplines leading facilities special projects to ensure all financial, administrative, contractual, and technical aspects of multiple projects are being executed as required. Some examples of the project this role would execute are minor and major remodels, programmatic roll-outs across the fleet, and the execution and standardization of the execution of new product types. The primary function of the role is to provide execution-related services as described above across North America reporting to the Director of Service construction.
Responsibilities
- The overarching responsibility of this role is ensuring the end-to-end success of each initiative by ensuring cross-functional alignment on budget, schedule, and quality and then executing against those commitments.
- Partner with standards, operations, and real estate to properly ingest new initiatives and mature them through the budgeting, design, approval, and execution gates.
- Oversee the work for compliance with schedule, budget, quality, safety, and overall conformance with the contract documents.
- Assist purchasing managers in creating contractor and vendor RFP documents (scope narratives, schedules, etc.), attend job walks and selection/award review meetings.
- Establish and/or review contract documents and manage procurement, pre-bid conferences, and evaluations.
- Coordinate activities with other Rivian staff, departments, and public agencies
- Resolve field construction problems in coordination with engineering staff, third parties, and other agencies as necessary.
- Chair progress meetings, complete status reports, and deliver presentations, as required.
- Recommend policy and procedure improvements.
- Assist in negotiating with contractors regarding changes to the design, construction work scope, and schedules.
- Support a quality audit program, oversee contractor corrective actions, and ensure a quality project conforming to plans and specifications.
- Monitor and/or resolve claims suggest ways to mitigate impacts and develop workarounds.
- Support Rivian safety vision and comply with all safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Perform site walks with stakeholders to develop layouts, estimates, and schedules.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management, is preferred, or similar number of years of experience in the field; and 7-10 years of experience managing construction projects of similar size and complexity.

- Ability to effectively solve problems and conflicts.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and provide leadership in the execution of complex, fast-paced, and/or unorthodox projects or program initiatives.
- Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of engineering
- Knowledge of design-build project delivery methodology
- Ability to manage multiple projects and issues effectively.
- Ability to support and provide a “customer service mentality” for multiple internal stakeholders effectively.
- Ability to assess the operational effectiveness of contractors.
- Possesses written and oral communication skills to support decisions and recommendations.
- Conduct meetings and provide effective leadership to project team members.
- Develop and manage budgets within established parameters.
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical materials accurately and effectively.
- Effective in making objective decisions.
- Knowledge of engineering drawings and specifications

- The physical demands associated with the duties and responsibilities described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform this job. This includes ability to spend extended hours walking construction sites and traveling to different project sites and offices.
- The work environment described herein is representative of those an employee may encounter while performing this job. The position will be based at a regional office, visit job site locations, and attend meetings at multiple offices. Exposure to the outdoors, dust, high noise levels, and hot and cold weather is likely. Wearing personal protective equipment is mandatory.
Pay Disclosure
Salary range for El Segundo, CA based applicants: $168,000-193,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law)
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
