Lead Facilities Controls Engineer

The Role
We are seeking a talented lead facilities controls engineer for our Fremont Factory in California. This candidate will be critical to lead the facilities controls engineering team. Join us to help accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy!

Responsibilities

  • Manage team of engineers to support an operational manufacturing facility in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner. Support, direct, and coach engineers in the areas of system ownership, training, disciplinary action, problem resolution, and work delegation
  • Lead efforts to identify system improvements and equipment modifications to improve safety, reliability, maintainability, and operability of the control systems. Act as primary point of contact for manufacturing for all controls facilities systems
  • Develop and successfully implement operational procedures, alarm management, capacity and demand management, maintenance planning and execution
  • Lead efforts to identify, develop, and design control panels, improvements, and upgrades to control systems for enhanced system functionality and reliability
  • Automation and standardization of facilities infrastructure processes, such as HVAC, heated and cooled water, air & utility distribution, etc
  • Create online operator safety documentation to provide additional guidance and system information to the operators, available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
  • Develop PLC code and perform PLC configuration and validation
  • Work closely with HMI development and Design to optimize data exchange and general system usability
  • Participate in the execution of start-up and commissioning activities

Requirements

  • BS/MS in an Engineering field (Majors in: Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation Engineering, etc.) or evidence of exceptional ability.
  • 5+ years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer. Leadership experience with at least 2 direct reports preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in programming industrial process: PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley), Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI – Ignition, Siemens Comfort Panel)
  • Ability to program state machines, data acquisition, and PID control. Proven ability to design fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery.
  • Must be well versed in root cause analysis methodologies, failure mode analysis
  • Configuration of controls networks including: Field bus Networks (ProfiNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Safety rated field bus networks), Serial communication (RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, ProfiBus, BacNet) between PLCs and instruments and microcontrollers, Ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems
  • Experience transitioning products and processes from concept to production desired
  • Ability to work independently with little to no direction

      $88,000 – $276,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
