Duties
The position leads three or more employees (positions include Plumber, Air Conditioning Mechanic, Carpenter, and Maintenance Worker) in accomplishing trades and labor work. Duties include:
- Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by members of the group led).
- Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
- Checks work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisors’ instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
- Answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives.
- Uses technical manuals, information bulletins, texts, handbooks, technical magazines, manufactures’ literature, etc., in fulfilling duties and keeping current with new engineering/trade methods, regulatory and code changes.
- Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work.
- Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (e.g., assures that machine capacities are not exceeded and tht tools are properly used).
- Works along with other workers, setting the pace.
- Leads the following employees in performing work: Electrician, Air Conditioning Mechanic, Plumber, Carpenter, and Maintenance Worker.
- Schedules training for shop employees and maintains individual training records for shop employees.
- Checks inventory of shop supplies and materials to ensure that proper quantity is on hand at all times.
- Performs journeyman level work in carpentry, pipefitting, plumbing, and HVAC necessary for building construction nd renovation.
- Ensures that all applicable regulatory procedures, practices and standards are maintained according to policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday and Weekends, 1st Shift 8:030am – 4:30pm, 2nd Shift Monday – Friday 4:00pm-12:00am, or 3rd Shift Monday-Friday 12:00am-8:00am

Physical Requirements: The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. The incumbent carries, lifts, and handles parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both in and outdoors, often being dusty, greasy, and dirty. Employee may be required to perform in inclement weather and will be subjected to temperature extremes. Will be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, burns and broken bones. The incumbent may wear protective clothing and other personal protective equipment.

Preferred Experience: At least 5 years of experience in Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing.

Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanics Work Leader without more than normal supervision.
Your resume should describe your ability to perform the duties of a Maintenance Mechanic Work Leader which includes but is not limited to: Experience in Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing which includes knowledge of the principles and trade practices, and governing codes. Technical manuals, information bulletins, texts, handbooks, technical magazines, manufactures’ literature, etc., are used advantageously in fulfilling duties and keeping current with new engineering/trade method and regulatory and code changes; knowledge of HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Masonry and Paint; ability to interpret complex instructions, and an understanding of the use of tools and equipment common to each of these trades; knowledgeable in the use of hand and power tools including hammers, handsaws, planes, screwdrivers, power saws, and power planers and able to use tapes, rulers and squares; ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches and able to complete projects with features such as areas, tangents, and circles; ability to plan and compute, calculate square footage, approximate mixing materials such as plaster, cement, concrete, and understanding of framing layouts; and ability to lead and guide in accepted building practices producing finished products. This is a Screen-Out Element. Failure to meet a minimum level will result in an ineligible rating.
