Lead Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Lead to join our team out of our office in Irvine, California.

Position Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes the safety and health of all persons working on or visiting the Site and promotes compliance with the Construction Safety & Health Plan and Environmental Management plans.
  • In conjunction with the Construction Superintendent and EHS team, reviews Trade Partners’ method statements, SPAs, and Permit applications and provides feedback to ensure all risks are assessed and appropriate control measures put in place to execute the works safely.
  • Is fully familiar with the contract scope, technical documentation package, contract price details, and fabrication/supply/construction program.
  • Keeps the CM & QA/QC Manager informed on all quality matters; advises QA/QC Manager of any potential deviations from the IFC documentation and ensures that only approved changes are implemented.
  • Consults with the Construction Superintendent on free-issue Equipment deliveries, receipts, and inspections.
  • In conjunction with the Turnover Engineer, reviews and approves test packs; provides information to the database controller so that status reports are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Participates in system walk-downs, punch-list management, construction close-out, and turnover of assets/equipment to clients.
  • Reviews Trade Partners’ red-line mark-ups for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensures construction IFCs are Red-Lined showing progress achieved and accuracy of installation.
  • Advises Construction Superintendent and Contracts Manager in relation to field variations, scope changes, or additional costs.

Salary Range: $132,993 – $190,000

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 15+ years of engineering experience with a minimum of 10 doing mechanical designs on industrial, light industrial, or large-scale commercial projects.
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years of central utility plant design experience related to chilled water, condenser water, hot water, and steam systems.
  • Working knowledge of energy analysis and simulation software systems.
  • Working knowledge of piping analysis and modeling software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer License.
  • LEED AP BD+C.
  • Experience in the design of LEED-related building utility systems.
  • Design experience with target cost design and ability to offer value engineering solutions on systems and materials.
