Job Summary
Crossroads Community Center is hiring a Lead Pre-School Teacher!
We are seeking a lead Pre-School Teacher for our Pre-Kindergarten 4- and 5-year-old program. The primary responsibility of the pre-school lead teacher is to always provide supervision and safety of the children. Each day the teacher is responsible to sign the children in/out of class, ensure that a Child Waiver Form is completed by the parent/guardian. The Parkside classroom at Crossroads is full of learning activities and opportunities for growth, both academically and socially. The teacher will provide art, singing, circle time exploration, and structured games and activities, with a monthly based theme. The teacher will work with a pre-school assistant to develop a cooperative, supportive, and enthusiastic atmosphere. The ideal candidate would have experience working with pre-school and/or elementary children and with diverse populations.
Work Schedule:
The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 9:00am-1:30pm., 4-week summer component.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for planning and implementing an age-appropriate inclusive pre-school program, for a diverse group of preschool age children with a 4-week summer component.
- Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program.
- Always provide supervision of the children.
- Provide adequate equipment and activities.
- Ensure equipment and the facility is clean, well maintained, and safe always. Report any concerns to coordinator or Center supervisor.
- Provide weekly and monthly schedule of activities to coordinator.
- Develop culturally appropriate programs and activities.
- Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts.
- Be familiar with emergency procedures.
- Prepare, create, and/or adapt instructional materials for children.
- Manage transitions (going from one activity to the next).
- Encourage children to use words to resolve conflicts.
- Encourage children to take turns and share.
- Provide various experiences and activities for children including songs, games, and storytelling.
- Build children’s self-esteem.
- Establish routines and provide positive guidance.
- Provide a safe and secure inclusive environment for children to feel comfortable.
- Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
- Observe children and make notes of progress to share with parents.
- Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress.
- Provide learning materials in the classroom that respect individual differences, foster student achievement, and maintain a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Work with pre-school assistant giving guidance to set up, clean up the room, preparing the next day.
- Lead circle time, story time
- Lead children into the gym, overseeing children with assistant.
- Encourages creativity of children and helps foster a positive environment in the classroom.
- Performs related duties, as assigned.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- Work is performed with moderate supervision.
- Job responsibilities are clearly defined, however, there may be opportunities for decision making with program activity.
- Program will include working with a pre-school assistant.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Applicant has a thorough knowledge of programs and services to which they are assigned.
- Interpersonal contacts will extend beyond the work group to patrons and the public.
- Public contact is significant and ongoing, working relations are established with patrons.
- Staff must be able to collaborate and communicate with other staff members.
- Will work with multiple participants within the program.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Prior work experience or education in recreation or a related field.
- Early Childhood Education, or a combination of ECE knowledge, training and experience working in a preschool setting.
- First Aid, CPR, AED or other specialized training or experience will be required.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to children, parents, and City staff.
- Experience and/or training are desired, specific to the responsibilities and competencies of this role, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
- Experience working with diverse populations, bi-lingual preferred.
- Knowledge of child development and early education theories and practices.
- Ability to work in a busy and occasionally noisy environment.

This is a variable, non-exempt, non-union position.
Definition of a Variable Employee:
- Average weekly hours are 22.5 hours.
- Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 28 hours per week or less.
- NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).
