Under the general direction of the Manager, Network and Systems Administration, the Senior Network Engineer designs, implements, and maintains the University’s network. The ideal candidate will be a senior engineer with heavy experience in enterprise (campus) networking, capable of working autonomously within an infrastructure team. The Senior Network Engineer will act as a subject matter expert in designing and operating a modern, complex, hyper converged, and cloud connected network. The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for both design and day to day support, providing technical leadership within the department’s Infrastructure team. Technical areas of responsibility will include the wired and wireless network as well as the University’s network identity management solution. Candidate will be open to respond to a dynamic environment, be flexible and able to accommodate accordingly. Candidate will also be responsible for ensuring the network environment is documented, monitored and patched.
• Collaborate with IT Management to assess near and long-term network capacity needs.
• Design and architect network changes.
• Lead technical discussions with junior engineers on technical problems and needs.
• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network operations, network mapping, processes, and service records.
• Supports network infrastructure (e.g., routers, switches, access points, firewalls).
• Supports VOIP and other telecommunication systems.
• Participate with Security Architect in the technical management of edge Firewalls.
• Install, connect, and support network cable systems.
• Participates in the resolution of related help desk requests.
• Experience with Change Management.
• Solid knowledge of information security principles and practices.
• Experience with network and security architectures.
• Proactively assesses potential items of risk and opportunities of vulnerability in the network.
• Recommends equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of acquiring required items and completing jobs efficiently.
• Research trends, products, equipment, tests, etc. for the purpose of recommending procedures and/or purchases.
• Responds to emergency situations as needed for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns.
• Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., staff, administrators, school site personnel, outside vendors and service providers, etc.) for the purpose of providing technical assistance and support.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Participates in on call after-hours support of network and system operations.

EDUCATION:

  • Associate degree in computer science, information technology, or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • CCNA R/S (CCNP R/S preferred)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ work experience administering complex networks in either the capacity of a Senior Network Administrator, Senior Network Engineer (or similar position).

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:

  • Experience supporting technical environments of 500 or more users.
  • Prior working experience supporting academic technical environments preferred.

• Skilled with collaborating and maintaining good working relationships and interacting with peers and resources in other departments.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to follow complex technical instructions.
• Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions.
• Self-starter and detail oriented.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Expert proficiency in the following networking protocols: TCP/IP, SSL, VPN, ACCESS-LISTS, routing (OSPF, BGP) and switching (Spanning Tree).
  • Expert knowledge of HPE/Aruba ProCurve Switches (or similar enterprise network equipment).
  • Expert knowledge of Aruba Wireless (or similar enterprise wireless technologies).
  • Experience with HPE ClearPass (or similar identity management solutions)
  • Experience with HPE IMC (or similar network monitoring solution)
  • Experience supporting with enterprise phone systems such as Mitel through Quality of Service (QoS)

Salary Range: $125,000-$140,000
