Role Summary
The Lead, Retail Construction (Spaces) works closely with the Real Estate, Design, Operations and Purchasing managers leading facilities construction projects to ensure all financial, administrative, contractual, and technical aspects of multiple projects are being executed as required. The primary function of the Lead, Retail Construction (Spaces) is to provide construction execution-related services and report to the Senior Manager, Construction. The Lead Construction Project Manager is also the primary contact for each assigned project and works adjacent to the Project Design & Architecture, Operations, and Security Managers. Rivian Spaces encompass our company retail portfolio which includes, but is not limited to, Pop-up Retail, Hubs, Flagship Hubs and Charging Outposts.
Responsibilities
- The overarching responsibility of this role is ensuring the end-to-end success of each initiative by ensuring cross functional alignment on budget, schedule and quality and then executing against those commitments.
- Project responsibility for scope, schedule and budget from concept (via Operations/Real Estate senior managers), design, construction, and operations (warranty & maintenance)
- Assist purchasing managers in creating contractor and vendor RFP documents (scope narratives, schedules, etc.), attend job walks and selection/award review meetings
- Assist Real Estate managers in site selection and site due diligence. Perform site walks with stakeholders to develop layouts, estimates, and schedules
- Establish and/or review contract documents and manage procurement, pre-bid conferences, and evaluations
- Coordinate activities with other Rivian staff, departments, and public agencies
- Chair progress meetings, complete status reports, and deliver presentations, as required
- Recommend policy and procedure improvements
- Assist in negotiating with contractors regarding changes to design, construction work scope, and schedules
- Support a quality audit program, oversee contractor corrective actions, and ensure a quality project conforming to plans and specifications
- Assist in monitoring and/or resolution of claims, suggest ways to mitigate impacts, and develop workarounds
- Support Rivian safety vision and comply with all safety rules, policies, and procedures
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management, is preferred, or similar number of years of experience in the field; and 7-10 years of experience managing construction projects of similar size and complexity.
- Lead projects “the Rivian way,” providing professional influence on the work exemplifying respect, leadership, commitment, vision and teamwork.
Ability to effectively solve problems and conflicts
Ability to plan, coordinate, and provide leadership in the execution of complex, fast-paced and/or unorthodox construction projects
Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of engineering
- Knowledge of design-build project delivery methodology
Ability to manage multiple project and issues effectively
Ability to support and provide “customer service mentality” for multiple internal stakeholders effectively
Ability to assess the operational effectiveness of contractors
Possesses written and oral communication skills to support decisions and recommendations
- Conduct meetings and provide effective leadership to project team members
Develop and manage budgets within established parameters
Ability to analyze and interpret technical materials accurately and effectively
Effective in making objective decisions
Knowledge of engineering drawings and specifications

Pay Disclosure
Salary range for New York, NY based applicants: $184,000-$211,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law)
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
