Job Description Summary

In support of the Student Affairs Learning Outcomes, the Wellness and Recreation team manages multiple fitness and recreation facilities and coordinates a variety of on- and off-campus recreation and wellness education programming. Alongside professional staff and in collaboration with other team members, the Lead Rock Wall Assistant is responsible for co-supervising student employees, managing day-to-day facility operations, and coordinating rock wall services and programs. The Lead Rock Wall Assistant strives to create a welcoming environment that contributes to the University by building community, increasing the students’ pride in their university, and improving students’ healthy sense of self. All Lead Rock Wall Assistants are members of the Department of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside professional staff to supervise Rock Wall Assistants, including hiring, training, team development, performance evaluation and accountability.
  • Through supervisor shifts, oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility in partnership with campus departments including Public Safety, Dining Services, Facilities Management, Custodial Services, and Information Systems and Technology.
  • Manage facility by ensuring all equipment and furnishings are working properly and that facilities are clean and tidy. Responsibilities include routine maintenance and cleaning as well as submitting work requests for major issues to campus departments.
  • Route set the rock wall on a bi-monthly basis to ensure all levels of climbing are being met and routes are safe for all climbers.
  • Coordinate a cleaning schedule amongst rock wall assistants on a semesterly basis for all holds on the wall to ensure holds are kept clean and sanitary.
  • Manage programs and services including climbing competitions and events
  • Address employee needs regarding scheduling, including approval of shift changes
  • Meet weekly 1-1 with direct supervisor
  • Attend weekly meetings with the supervision team
  • Lead monthly team meetings with all Guest Relations staff members
  • Assist in Student Engagement department-wide events
  • Assist in other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified through the end of the academic year. If an applicant is not already certified, certification will be coordinated by the Department of Student Engagement upon employment.

  • Knowledge of or experience with campus policies and procedures

  • Rock wall climbing experience
  • Ability to climb a ladder
  • Ability to lift objects of 45lbs
