We’re looking for an experienced Lead Technical Artist for Rigging to join the Apex Legends team. You will work closely with the animation, character, and weapon teams to implement character and weapon rigs and tools. Your team has have a strong focus on building the animation and rigging pipelines with support from our tech art pipeline team. You will collaborate with our other two tech art teams MTX & Weapons team and the pipeline team.
We as a studio value giving our team creative ownership. As a leader you will look for where you can make big impacts with your team and lead those projects. It is important to know that we move swiftly as we are a live service game.
As a lead you will manage a team of technical artists and your daily workload will include assessment, scheduling, and mentoring, while also leading by example by implementing rigs and tools. This team is focused on the implementation of new characters and weapons along with the tools required to work with those assets by the animation team. We also have an additional team of technical artists to support larger tool projects to support your team.
Reporting to the Technical Art Director, You will:
- Lead a team of tech artists focused on the character pipeline and weapons.
- Lead the character pipeline that the internal and external animation teams use.
- Review teams work to maintain high-quality bar for assets and code.
- Support your team through scheduling, 1 on 1s, and mentoring.
- Collaborate with Artists, Animators, and Engineers to implement new tools and systems.
- Advocate for the department’s goals, and desires. Remove roadblocks, raise red flags.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure good communication and solid working relationships between departments.
- Inspire the entire department to constantly raise the quality bar, develop solutions, and work with all other connected departments.
- Practice and encourage good programming practices. Actively participate in code reviews, write clean and readable code, maintain documentation, ect.
Qualifications
- 6+ years professional experience.
- Experience shipping a project as a team lead.
- Expert Experience of Python programming.
- Expert knowledge Maya API and Qt.
- Live Service Game Development Experience a plus.
- Portfolio that shows relevant tech art experience in games (tools, pipelines, etc.)
- Strong understanding of relevant tools and technology.
- Understanding of game engines and art integration pipelines and how to optimize them.
- Strong Math skills.

° $131,600 – $213,300
• New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
° $131,600 – $213,300
• Jersey City, NJ:
° $154,800 – $213,300
• Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
° $131,600 – $179,600
• Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
° $131,600 – $195,200
Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
