Summary

As a Lead-Writer Editor, you will lead a team of writer-editors providing a wide range of support including the planning, writing, editing, and producing of manuals, reports, handbooks, brochures, agendas, bulletins, and other types of publications across all agency vehicles.

This position is located in Communcations, Public Affairs, Comptroller’s Office in Washington, DC.

Duties

As a Lead-Writer Editor, you will:

  • Lead and coach team of writer-editors as the agency’s primary technical expert reviewing, editing, and preparing material typically prepared by others for publications in various forms that communicate accurate and timely information.
  • Manage editorial customer request queue in absence of manager and in collaboration with visual communications team lead, helping fairly balance workload among employees. Articulate and communicate to team members the scope of assignments. Establish sound and practical deadlines, negotiating schedules on behalf of other editors with responsible parties to ensure production of publications and supplements deliver on schedule.
  • Advise on editorial request process improvement. Create, revise, and document editorial policies and procedures. Lead the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provide leadership to the team in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made.
  • Present information at meetings on behalf of Editorial Services to the Office of Public Affairs and other business units. Lead team meetings of writer-editors. Serve as a member of the division leadership team. Give presentations on editorial techniques to other business units.
  • Primary agency arbiter of OCC style. Administer and maintain OCC Style Manual. Ensure team adheres to OCC style and helps team members interpret and apply OCC style. Interact with customers on style point questions and clarifications. Coordinate new or revised style points before publication. Approve specifications and standards for document formats, templates, and style. Work with experts to draft, edit, and/or recommend changes or revisions of documents to consistently maintain editorial and visual identity standards for the agency.
  • Enable engagement by maintaining a high degree of rapport with other unit, division, and Public Affairs team members and management. Serve as a coach on the team to coordinate team initiatives and influence consensus building among the team and its constituents. Communicate team consensus and recommendations to the supervisor on actions affecting team and individual awards, rewards, and recognition.

This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into “Continuous Vetting.” Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one’s employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI’s Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement:

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the NB-IV band level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience for this position include:

– Writing, editing, developing, or producing technical or regulatory documents and materials tailored to specific media and audiences.

AND

– Contributing to the development and implementation of policies, practices, and procedures related to writing and editing work.

The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

  • This position is a Step 2 level position within the NB-V pay band. Step 2 level positions are distinguished by additional job complexity, responsibility, and advanced skill levels required by the work.
  • Salary range includes 24.27% geographical pay.
