The Georgia Department of Revenue seeks to fill a Legal Analysis Specialist 1 position in the Taxpayer Services Division’s Taxpayer Resolution Unit. This team member will work in a fast-paced environment that values efficiency and productivity. This role expects daily interaction with Georgia taxpayers, necessitating a strong attention to detail and quick reasoning skills.As part of the customer experience at the Georgia Department of Revenue, this position requires enthusiasm when finding solutions for our customers via phone, email, and in person. The ideal candidate will possess solid interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication abilities, and effective problem resolution techniques for assisting in issues of both a sensitive and complex nature.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Resolving taxpayer disputes associated with protests
- Conducting in-depth examinations on taxpayer requests
- Considering requests for & rendering decisions regarding policy exceptions
- Providing review & analysis of the implications of laws, policy statements, and regulations
- Performing legal research & compiling data from references, digests, and law libraries
- Working with CPAs, attorneys, and other tax professionals to provide account resolutions
Entry Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related area from an accredited college or university~ OR three years of experience in the related area
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience in one of the following tax types: Individual, Corporate, Withholding, or Sales & Use
- Strong competency in GDORs Integrated Tax Solution system (ITS)
- Experience addressing customer issues with courtesy and professionalism
- Ability to take action without the presence of explicit instructions
- Ability to take responsibility for one’s actions and decisions
- Experience setting priorities to ensure deadlines are met
- Ability to adjust and respond to rapidly evolving situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid understanding & working knowledge of the rules and regulations that govern GDOR tax compliance
- Experience working in high-volume tax work environment
Position Status & Pay Grade: Unclassified -Pay Grade J Hiring Range: $37,970.99 – $47,000 *Individual salary will be commensurate with guidelines set forth by the State Personnel Board Rules State Personnel Board Rules for current State Employees 478-1-.12 Salary 478-1-.15 Changes to Employment Status
Location: Century Center Office: 1800 Century Blvd NE, Atlanta 30345 *This vacancy requires office hours of 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. A telework option is contingent upon demonstrated proficiency after training and is subject to change based on DOR policies and ability to meet performance expectations.
