The Competition and Markets Regulation Group helps the company comply with the competition laws and market regulations around the world, close mergers and acquisitions, and respond to investigations. We also engage with regulators, academics, and others to consider the role of competition and market regulation in the face of our changing economy, the development of new technology, and passage of new laws and regulations. It requires a broad understanding of our industry and our customers, technology, the political environment and the law as well as the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate across disciplines to solve problems.

The Competition and Market Regulations Group is seeking an attorney to be part of the team supporting the Company’s efforts to comply with new market regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop processes to ensure that the requirements of applicable new digital markets regulations are implemented in Microsoft’s products and services.
  • Gain a strong understanding of the regulatory requirements as well engagement techniques to clarify those requirements when they are opaque.
  • Communicate those requirements to the teams implementing them in Microsoft products and service and help them interpret the requirements within the context of the particular Microsoft product or service.
  • Work with Microsoft senior leaders to explain and support Microsoft’s compliance decisions externally to regulators and others.
  • Support internal processes to ensure compliance across time and product releases

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate Degree or Equivalent International Degree
    • OR Completion of a Legal Apprenticeship.
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
  • 3+ years experience as a practicing attorney
    • OR equivalent practice of law.
  • 2+ years experience as a practicing attorney in the area of competition and antitrust law as applied to technology markets
    • OR equivalent experience within Microsoft working on technical challenges associated with meeting regulatory or other compliance standards

Legal Counsel IC3 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $101,200 – $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $130,000 – $213,200 per year.
