Come join us! We’re hiring a Legal Counsel for eCommerce & Safety to join EA’s Legal Team. You will report to EA’s Senior Counsel, eCommerce & Safety, and support EA legal and business teams to help deliver EA’s mission to be the world’s greatest games company.

This position may be remote or based in one of our EA locations in either Guildford (UK); Los Angeles, CA; Austin; TX; Seattle, WA; or Vancouver, British Columbia.

As Legal Counsel, you will provide legal support to a team of attorneys, legal professionals, and business partners, including teams responsible for EA’s digital platform products and features, internal and external communications, game development, customer service and online safety. Tasks include conducting research, reviewing new products and features, and managing applicable internal guidance and playbook documents.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the initial point of contact for teams seeking advice on matters relating to consumer rights and protections in the areas of ecommerce (direct-to-consumer business models, including virtual currency programs, subscriptions and in-game monetisation and content mechanics) and online safety policies and technology relating to user-generated content features and content moderation.
  • Keeping up to date with regulatory requirements and policy trends, supporting the development of internal requirements and recommendations for business and legal stakeholders and advising on new business initiatives.
  • Partner with members of EA’s legal team to create and maintain written guidance on EA’s ecommerce, consumer protection and online safety policies and practices.
  • Communicate legal department policies to internal partners, conduct legal research, act to limit EA’s legal liabilities, and work with other attorneys and business partners.
  • Cultivate partnerships across EA’s digital platform, studio, product development, customer service and online safety teams and EA’s legal teams. Success in this position relies on collaborating with numerous teams and developing trust across those teams.
  • Provide practical, clear and easy to understand legal advice to the business often explaining complex legal advice in business-friendly terms.
  • Conduct legal research or projects.

What you bring to the team/Minimum Qualifications:

  • D. or similar educational level for candidates educated outside of the US, with 1-3 years of experience in a law firm providing services for technology or entertainment clients and/or in-house legal department at a technology or entertainment company.
  • Knowledge and experience of consumer protection, content regulation, ecommerce, and online safety related laws.
  • Ability to work independently on diverse matters, such as reviews with business partners, and being comfortable finding creative and practical solutions.
  • Good listener with excellent verbal and written communication skills, team player with a high sense of personal ethics and integrity, good judgment, and strong analytical skills.
  • Collaborative with experience of building great partnerships across diverse teams.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work, prioritize workload efficiently and effectively, and problem-solve.
  • Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload working on legal matters with multiple business and legal teams assessing risk in areas where there may be a lack of legal precedent.

“US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

EA has listed the base salary ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

BASE SALARY RANGES

  • California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):

° $113,300 – $171,700

  • New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):

° $111,500 – $171,700

  • Jersey City, NJ:

° $126,700 – $171,700

  • Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):

° $111,500 – $144,000

  • Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):

° $111,500 – $157,300

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.”
