Realty Income is looking to hire a Legal Counsel to collaborate with our in-house Acquisitions team to help build out the development and redevelopment arm of our legal team. The ideal candidate will be able to manage all necessary legal activities, and third-party vendors, to collaborate on devising the optimal approach to various acquisition and development transactions, while ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.

What you will work on:

  • Coordinate, analyze, manage, negotiate, document, and close a wide range of multifaceted real estate acquisition and development transactions.
  • Review, draft, negotiate and approve documents of a broad variety related to various real estate transactions, e.g., confidentiality agreements, letters of intent, correspondence, purchase agreements, escrow instructions, lease agreements, amendments, assignments, estoppels, development agreements, disbursement agreements, easement agreements, title objection letters, deeds, closing documents, business entity documents, etc.
  • Approve information and reports received in connection with complex transactions, e.g., title commitments, surveys, plans and specifications, environmental reports, engineering reports, zoning reports, construction monitoring reports, etc.
  • Analyze entitlement status and zoning issues.
  • Review existing loan documents and negotiate lender consent documents in connection with the assumption of in-place loans encumbering real estate.
  • Supervise paralegal in coordinating escrow closings and post-closing matters.
  • Apply risk management techniques, assess potential exposure, and offer proactive advice and solutions on possible legal issues.
  • Communicate and negotiate with a variety of external parties, e.g., brokers, external counsel, third -party vendors.
  • General legal research and investigation and routine advice/counsel to all departments on a variety of legal matters.

What we need from you:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • 3+ years of on-point legal experience; commercial real estate transactions a must.
  • Bar membership required.
  • Proven experience as a legal counsel in a business environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of real estate and corporate law with a preference for significant experience with development transactions.

What You’ll get in Return:

The base salary for this role is in the range of $107,574 – $178,673. You may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and an annual discretionary stock award, (dependent on date of hire) to be discussed during the initial phone interview. Base salary and total compensation package determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, education, skills, performance, and abilities, as well as internal equity, company performance, and alignment with market data.
