What you’ll do
The Legal Operations Assistant is responsible for supporting the Associate General Counsel and Director of Compliance with tracking, filing, and invoicing of all legal matters, legal research, administrative tasks, and other department projects.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Support the Associate General Counsel and Director of Compliance with legal matters, legal file research, document saving, data entry, and other projects for the Legal & Compliance team.
- Assist with tracking, calendar maintenance, and processing of Legal Department’s current files and matters, including but not limited to:
- Performing Symitar account maintenance for various bankruptcy and legal matters;
- Managing and processing legal invoices, and posting and issuing checks;
- Notarizing legal documents;
- Providing backup support and assistance to Legal & Compliance team members.
- Support the Associate General Counsel and Director of Compliance with other general administrative tasks, including but not limited to:
- Filing, scanning, organizing, and processing incoming and outgoing mail and other documents;
- Providing miscellaneous support with office management tasks, including organizing, ordering supplies, and planning and facilitating logistics for meetings.
- Assist the Legal & Compliance team with inquiries, filings, and other routine communications with vendors, outside counsel, and legal partners.
- Assist with compiling reports and presentations on behalf of the Legal Department. Perform research and data collection for internal and external reports related to credit reporting, legal, BSA, and compliance matters.
- Have or able to obtain Colorado notary public license.
- Actively promote and contribute to the achievement of organizational goals.
- Comply with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.
- Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard member and organization assets.
- Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong relationship building and teamwork skills.
- Ability to organize and track deadlines, calendars, invoices, and filings for multiple ongoing cases and legal matters.
- Accurate handling of cash and negotiable instruments with a strong cash balancing record.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of Canvas financial products and services.
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong knowledge of all Canvas internal systems, such as CARES, Temenos, Symitar, Akuvo
- Ability to maintain confidences.
Education or Formal Training: Two year college degree or equivalent work experience
Experience: One to three years personal banking, legal administration, or related experience. Credit union experience is preferred.
The starting pay range for this position is $20.38-$25.48 hourly, and final pay rate will be determined based on experience and internal equity factors.

Working Environment/Physical Activities
High volume, fast-paced, dynamic office environment with some travel. Must be able to attend meetings and events outside of regular business hours. The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines and filing cabinets. The position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets. The position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
