Under limited supervision, must be mentally and physically capable of performing various complex clerical duties necessary for the effective operation of the Magistrate’s Office on a daily basis. Prepares, processes and maintains legal records and documents and performs routine clerical and administrative duties. Reports to the immediate supervisor as assigned.
Prepares, processes, maintains, files, issues and/or transmits as appropriate all legal records, official papers and other documents as necessary for Magistrate’s Office operations.
May schedule jury trials and/or hearings, etc.; notifies all parties involved; prepares courtroom dockets and jury rosters.
Performs computer data entry to record and retrieve case and payment information and to prepare reports and correspondence.
Completes and submits monthly activity reports as required.
Receives and receipts court fees, traffic fines, criminal fines, etc. Accurately maintains related files and bank account records.
Researches codes and regulations as requested by supervisors and Clerk of Court.
Interprets Magistrate’s Court procedures and provides assistance and information to attorneys and the public as required.
Performs various clerical and/or secretarial duties as necessary, including but not limited to typing letters, legal documents and office communications, filling out forms, indexing, copying, filing, faxing information, answering the telephone, processing mail, etc.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various documents, including case files, appeals, bonds, various forms, court orders, warrants, traffic tickets, transmittals, waivers, pleas, jury summonses, subpoenas, judgeents, satisfactions, restraining orders, notices of sale, eviction notices, complaints, billing invoices, budget documents, memos, correspondence, etc.
Operates a various office equipment and machinery in the performance of daily activities including a typewriter, computer, calculator, copier, printer, telephone, two-way radio, etc.
Interacts, communicates and provides assistance to various individuals and groups including immediate supervisor, Clerk of Court, co-workers, customers, attorneys, paralegal, Magistrates, other County employees, law enforcement agencies, bondsmen, various state agencies, and the general public.
May assist Clerk of Court during court proceedings.
Performs related duties as required.
Requires a high school diploma supplemented by three to five years of clerical/legal experience and knowledge of the legal/court system; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and experience.
