About this position:

This position will support the Government Relations work unit within the Policy, Communication and Administration office. The team works directly with the Colorado General Assembly and senior leadership in the Department to move the Department’s budget and legislative priorities forward. The team works closely with staff across the Department and with other state agencies.

We are onboarding new employees using a hybrid approach. The Department supports flexible work arrangements. Depending on the business need and description of the position, we have options that range from fully remote, hybrid, to full-time in the office. Specific discussions about the schedule will be discussed during the offer stage.

Description of Job
The Department of Health Care Policy and Finance is looking to fill a Temporary position to perform the Legislative Coordinator role.

Responsibilities in this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Tracking bills status from concept through implementation during session and for legislation impacting the Department and Department-led efforts.
  • Ensuring the Executive Leadership Team and Legislative Team have the most recent, updated version of legislation, and related documents and trackers.
  • Managing executive engagement, including maintaining legislative calendars, tracking hearing invitations, scheduling subject matter experts and executive leadership for testimony.
  • Working closely with the Legislative Team to schedule internal and external meetings to review bill language, plan strategy, discuss new bills and provide feedback.
  • Working closely with Senior Legislative Analyst and other Department staff to assist with logistics related to hearings including scheduling hearings with legislative staff, drafting testimony or talking points, creating handouts and binders, editing and providing copies of fact sheets and other key information to legislators and legislative staff as needed.
  • Providing assistance as needed in the office, at the capitol, and remotely to ensure success of legislative, budget, and affordability agendas.

Minimum Qualifications

Recently completed or nearing completion of a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior state experience related to the duties of this position
  • Knowledge of the legislative or budget process in Colorado
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills, especially with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and SharePoint
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or related fields
  • One year of general administrative/clerical experience or program coordination where the primary responsibilities include the following:
    • Working with computer software and applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Applications, etc.)
    • Effective time management skills and knowledge of scheduling software
    • Creating memos and communications
    • Working with tools to track progress on projects and reporting on progress towards project goals
