Title: Library Technician

Purpose of Position:
Under the direction of a site administrator and certificated teacher/librarian, the library technician provides technical and clerical support to enable to teacher/librarian to focus on the instructional program and ensure that all students, teachers and administrators have access to a fully-staffed library through the school day.
Employment Status: Part-time (FLSA Non-exempt)
Reports To: An assigned supervisor.

Essential Functions:
Oversees the general operation of the school library facility including the circulation, shelving, processing, repair, and inventory of all library resources.
Assists with ordering books and other resources.
Performs clerical duties including the generation and distribution of notices for overdue/lost items, correspondence, preparation of periodic statistical reports, and electronic and monetary record keeping of patrons and resources.
Provides assistance to students and staff in the use of the library, automated circulation system, and print, media, and digital resources and equipment.
Assists with instructional activities in the library; provides individual assistance to students.
Provides work direction for student workers and volunteers.
Monitors student behavior to maintain a conducive learning environment.
Assists with facilitation of reading incentive and comprehension programs for students by recommending appropriate library books and resources, planning promotional activities, and read alouds.
Maintains an orderly, visually appealing, and clean environment.
When assigned to an elementary school, collaborates with the District librarian and Elementary Lead Library Technician on projects or initiatives and attends monthly meetings, as required.
Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.

Inside work with no exposure to weather conditions.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; standing or sitting for extended periods of time; bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, or reaching above the shoulders to retrieve or store materials.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of library practices, procedures and terminology, preferably in a K12 public education setting.
Knowledge of computer systems, databases, and other sources of digital media.
Knowledge of contemporary office procedures, including telephone and email etiquette, and proper English grammar and spelling.
Ability to manage and maintain the library collection.
Ability to relate positively to and maintain cooperative relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
Ability to assist classroom teachers and students with special projects and use of the library.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to monitor and maintain appropriate student behavior in the library.
Ability to maintain current and accurate records and prepare usage statistical reports.
Ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to the library.
Ability to plan, organize, and complete work within designated schedules and timelines.
Ability to cope with high-volume periods and stress with accuracy, speed, and tact.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
Ability to work collaboratively with others.
Education, Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; experience working in a library or media center environment with children, teens or other youth-related activities.
Additional Requirements:
Successful passage of written or performance assessment.
