Why does the job exist?

This position for the Public Education Department (PED) will assist in the management of a credential system to ensure that state statutes and licensure rules relative to recruitment, assignment and licensure in New Mexico are appropriately implemented, while ensuring the highest confidentiality is maintained at all times. Additional, this position will work closely with candidates who are pursuing licensure via an alternative pathway.

How does it get done?

Provide technical assistance and support to all applicants for licensure including: (50%)
-application submissions in the online licensing system
-troubleshooting errors in submissions and submitting support tickets
-communicating with applicants via email, phone, in person, and virtual meetings
-reviewing submissions or supporting documents
-issuing licenses that meet all requirements
-returning applications that are incomplete

Provide technical assistance and support to Superintendents, Charter School Leaders, Human Resources Leaders and other central office staff including: (15%)
-advising on the requirements for licensure
-training on how to use the online licensing system
-communicating updates to processes

Provide technical assistance and support to candidates are completing alternative licensure programs including: (10%)
-providing all requirements and timelines
-processing full licensure based on requirements met
-serve as the point of contact for leaders of alternative educator preparations programs

Provide technical assistance and support to candidates for advancement via micro-credentials including: (10%)
-providing all requirements and timelines
-processing advancement for licensure based on requirements met
-serve as the point of contact for Local Education Agencies (LEAs) who are supporting candidates for advancement via micro-credentials

Provide technical assistance and support to LEAs during 40/80/120 day reporting via NOVA including: (15%)
-reviewing discrepancies/errors and troubleshooting to clear those discrepancies/errors
-providing all requirements and timelines
-validating LEAs corrected reports for licensure.

Ideal Candidate

-Have a minimum of 5 years working in a customer service environment
-Have strong written and verbal communication skills
-Advanced skills in Microsoft suite.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and four (4) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico’s Driver’s License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
